Thelma Barlow Obituary

BEREA, Ky. _ Thelma Jean Warren Barlow died Saturday, Jan. 17, 2009, in Berea, Ky.
Thelma was raised in Methodist faith as a child, Presbyterian as an adult then joined the non-denominational Union Church after her move to Kentucky in 2004.
Thelma was married to John W. Barlow for 53 years. Thelma and John owned and operated a successful dairy farm on Lee Hollow Road, Bovina.
Thelma started working as a secretary at Delhi College in 1972, retiring in 1992.
Singing in the church choir, raising thriving vegetable and flower gardens, walking several miles every day, working at the Good Foods Coop and visiting the elderly were Thelma's activities of joy.
Thelma was a 30-plus year cancer survivor. Thelma was challenged later in life by Alzheimer's disease.
Thelma also enjoyed the Kentucky-based care of McCready Manor, The Breckenridge and The Terrace, as well as visits from her sons and their families.
Survivors include sons, Dale, Berea, Ky., and Peter, Taos, N.M.; daughters-in-law, Rita Lashley Barlow and Gayle Monaghan Barlow; grandchildren, Gabriel, Morgan and Brooke; brother, Earl Warren; brothers-in-law, Ralph and Roger Barlow, Don Ritz; sisters-in-law, Arlene Warren, Anne Warren; and a host of nieces and nephews.
Other than her spouse, John, Thelma was predeceased by her parents, Ralph and Florence Jester Warren; sister, Eileen Ritz; brothers, Bruce and Lyle Warren.
A song and potluck celebration of Thelma's Kentucky life was held at Union Church, Berea, Ky., at 2 p.m. Monday, Jan. 19, 2009. Burial and a continued celebration of Thelma's life will be held at a later date at the Treadwell Methodist Church, with burial in the Treadwell Cemetery.
Lakes Funeral Home, Berea, Ky., is in charge of cremation.

I'm am so sorry to hear of Thelmas passing. I miss seeing Thelma take one of her walks by my home on her way to visit another neighbor. She never failled to say hello when she walked by. Both Thelma and John were great neighbors.

Sorry to hear of Thelma's passing.
I went to Treadwell school with her 1938-1941.We were next door neighibors. Her dad used to pick us up in a covered sliegh in the winterand take us down to the corner
Then drive us to school in his van-bus.

I am sorry to read of Thelma's death. I remember my Warren cousins as well as John since I went to school in Treadwell 1938-44. My grandmother was Kate Stilson Cronauer.
