Charles Slaughter Obituary

A Memorial Service is set for Charles Aron Slaughter, Jr., 80, who died after a long illness, May 14, 2001 at the Northeast Baptist Hospital. Friday, May 18, 2001 5:30 P.M. Gathering, then Service Rolling Oaks Christian Church 7150 Stahl Road (off Nacogdoches) Charles was born to Mildred Viola and Charles Aron Slaughter, Sr., on December 16, 1920 in Washington, D.C. He served in the U.S. Navy from 1942 to 1946 as a First Class Petty Officer and saw service in both the Atlantic and the Pacific. On July 3, 1947, he married Lillian Joyce Huggins, a Navy nurse, and his devoted wife for more than 53 years. They moved to San Antonio in 1958. Charles was a civilian employee at Fort Sam Houston for 20 years, retiring in 1988. He was a member of Rolling Oaks Christian Church where he served as a Deacon. An avid golf player, he was a member of SARGA, whose members are retirees. He was a starter marshal at the Club of Sonterra for several years. In addition to his wife, he is survived by their two sons and one daughter, Charles A. Slaughter III and John David Slaughter, both of San Antonio, Charlene Ann Stich of Conifer, CO, along with their spouses, Susan Slaughter, Ann Slaughter, and Howard Stich respectively. Five grandchildren survive: Charles A. Slaughter IV and his wife Jeannette, Ernest Slaughter and his wife Jodi, Jeffrey Slaughter, Nicholas Slaughter, Abigail Slaughter and great-granddaughter, Taylor Slaughter, all of San Antonio. Two sisters and one brother survive, June Louise DeLauder of Woodstock, GA, Patricia Ann Moss and her husband Robert of Boynton Beach, FL and John Lee Slaughter and his wife Ann of San Antonio, along with numerous nieces and nephews.
