George Farquhar Obituary
George Robert Farquhar, 77, passed away October 28, 2007 in Mountain View, California. George had recently moved from Texas to California to be with his family and to undergo medical treatment. George was born in San Antonio, Texas on December 27, 1929, son of Samuel Hugh and Evelyn Farquhar. In April of 1948, George entered into active service with the U.S. Army. During the Korean War, George served with the 187th Airborne Regiment Combat Team in Operation Tomahawk, and was wounded during a parachute jump on March 23, 1951 into Munsan-Ni. George was very proud of his service as a Rakkasan and in September of 1998, he toured South Korea as part of a reunion that took him back to the place where he was wounded. He received his Purple Heart in 1999, 48 years late, when his son, LTC Wayne Clifton Farquhar, Cliff, was finally successful in documenting his father's entitlement to the award and the Army corrected their oversight. Tragically, Cliff was killed in an accident in Seoul, S. Korea before he could see his father receive his award. George and his late wife, Patricia, participated in many Rakkasan reunions over the years. George continued to attend these reunions through 2006, and was an active member of the Lone Star Chapter, regularly attending monthly meetings until just recently. George, a Methods Engineer, retired from the Army Depot at the Naval Air Station, Corpus Christi, Texas in 1985, after 30 years of Civil Service. In retirement, he and his late wife, Patricia, traveled all over the United States in their RV. They were always present for special family events throughout their years of travel, and spending time with their children and grandchildren was a favorite pastime. Patricia passed away in September of 2001, and George continued to travel for about a year or so afterwards. Without his co-pilot, Patricia, the highways just weren't the same, and eventually, he migrated back to Corpus Christi. In Corpus Christi, George revived a childhood talent for dancing, and enrolled in square dancing lessons. George found a special dance partner and friend in Marie Koch of Cibolo, Texas, and relocated to San Antonio in 2004. As active members of Dancing Duets Round Dance Club, Flying Squares and Camping Squares square dance clubs, George and Marie danced their way across Bexar County and beyond until George's illness was discovered in September 2007. George is survived by his children and grandchildren: son Wesley and wife Patsy and their children, Galen and Lauren; daughter Melody and husband Lance and their daughter, Blythe; daughter-in-law Teressa and her daughter, Rebecca; daughter Margaret and her daughter Camille; daughter Kathryn and husband Donald, and their children, Patricia and Kaleigh. Memorial services with Military Honors will be held on Sunday, November 4 at 1:30 PM, viewing from 11:00 AM, at Gierhart, Wells & Donahue Funeral Home, 123 N. School Street, Lodi, California followed by graveside at the Lodi Memorial Cemetery, 5750 E. Pine St., Lodi, Ca. where George will be buried alongside his wife, Patricia.
