Henry Stiegler Obituary

STIEGLER
Henry Louis Stiegler, beloved father and grandfather, passed away February 1, 2009, at his home in Hondo, Texas, following a short illness. He was born in Hondo on October 16, 1918, to Edgar and Ella (Frerichs) Stiegler and is the fifth generation of several Medina County pioneer ranching and farming families. he is preceded in death by his wife, Florence (Zuberbueler) Stiegler; his parents; his brother, Ralph C. Stiegler; and grandson-in-law, Michael Lichtenfeldt. On Jan. 27, 1940, he married his high school sweetheart, Florence, and together they spent the next 64 years, until her death in 2004, as cattle ranchers in Medina County. Henry was a member of St. John's Catholic Church, serving as president of the Parish Council; a 60-year member of the Grand Lodge, Sons of Hermann, serving on the Laws Committee 8 years. He was also president of the Hondo Lodge for 11 years; past president of the Medina County Wildlife Association; and a member of the Quihi Gun Club. He is survived by his daughter, Karen Stiegler (Dan) Winship of Corpus Christi; four grandchildren David (Darla) Winship, Jennifer Winship Belcher, and Sheri Winship (Grant) Hilliard, all of Corpus Christi, and Debra Winship Lichtenfeldt of Galveston; six great-grandchildren, Whitnee Winship (Jason) Sutton, Haleigh Belcher, Stephanie Gibson, Nathan, Ashley and Brittany Hilliard, all of Corpus Christi; and two great-great-grandchildren, Noelle Gibson and Brayson Sutton; sisters, Gerry Schneider of Hondo and Doris (Joe) Biry of San Antonio; uncle and aunt, Harold and Julia Stiegler of Hondo; many nieces and nephews; and his wonderful caregiver of 7 years, Perty Esquivel. Pallbearers are David Winship, Grant Hilliard, Chris Stiegler, Scott Belcher, James "Chick" Tschirhart and Howard Saathoff. Visitation will be Thursday, Feb. 5, 6 to 8 p.m., with Rosary at 7 p.m., at Guinn-Horger Funeral Home. Funeral Mass will be celebrated Friday, Feb. 6, 11 a.m., at St. John's Catholic Church with interment at Hondo Cemetery, St. John's Section.
