James McGuffee Obituary

MCGUFFEE
James Edward McGuffee of San Antonio passed away Sunday June 22. He was born June 27, 1925, at Wichita Falls, TX. He was preceded in death by his parents, Albert V. and Linda (Oliver) McGuffee, his wife Fran, and his brother Harold Benjamin (Buddy) McGuffee. Edward is survived by cousins Sam Akin and wife Lois of Dripping Springs, TX, Gene Robbins and wife Betty of Spicewood, TX, Gary Oliver and wife Louise of Madill, OK, and Joel Culpepper and wife Marian of San Antonio, TX, and grand daughter June Havens of Port Charlotte, FL. Edward moved to San Antonio with his family in 1930 where he attended the public schools. He enlisted in the US Navy in 1942. During World War II he served on a destroyer protecting the Panama Canal. Returning home after the war, he was awarded a diploma in 1946 by Harlandale High School based on the results of a General Educational Development test. He attended John Tarleton Agricultural College (now Tarleton State University). He enlisted in the US Air Force where he served during the Korean War. During his career in the Air Force he served at Okinawa, England and at various bases in the US including a tour of duty in Hawaii. He met and married the love of his life, Fran. Upon retiring from the Air Force, he was employed by the US Postal Service in San Jose, CA. After retiring from his second career as a mail carrier, Edward and Fran moved to Mesa, AZ, and eventually back to San Antonio. Edward was an avid sports fan and had an encyclopedic memory of football, baseball, and other teams, statistics, and personalities. He was a collector of classic movies and had hundreds of films in his collection. He loved his dogs, Buster and Lupe. The family wishes to express their appreciation to Reuben and Debbie Hernandez, the staffs of the Wilford Hall Medical Center, Warm Springs Rehabilitation Hospital, and Mr. and Mrs. Jim Nabors for their care and support. Burial will be at Fort Sam Houston National Cemetery. A memorial service will be held at the cemetery.

Dear McGuffee Family:

It is with deepest sadness that I extend my condolences to you on the loss of your beloved.

As Chair of the Senate Committee on Veteran Affairs and Military Installations, I am sincerely thankful for his valiant service and dedication to our great country.

May the love and the wonderful memories you shared with him help you when you need it most. He will never be forgotten, and your family will be remembered in my prayers.
