John Kyle Goddard

John "Kyle" Goddard, 89, of Wagoner, OK, passed away December 10, 2022.

At Tulsa University, while earning a Journalism degree, Kyle was the editor of the campus newspaper and named outstanding TU journalist, by the Pi Delta Epsilon fraternity in 1954. Before entering the US Army in 1955, as an Information Specialist, he worked for the Tulsa World. Kyle was named the sports editor of the Fort Lee Traveler, in Fort Lee, VA, where he was stationed in 1956. In 1957, Kyle transferred to the US Army Reserves and was Honorably Discharged in August 1961.

Kyle served for more than six years with the U.S. Jaycees and then for the Tulsa Tribune Newspaper for about six years. Kyle was honored with an Oklahoma Education Association Award for an editorial he wrote in 1969. In 1970, Kyle left the Tribune to assist Tulsa attorney James R. Jones in his run for Congress. He worked for many different politicians over the next twenty or so years, doing public relations and campaign promotion, and writing the occasional newspaper story. He was also the publisher of the "Oklahoma Scoop."

Kyle met his wife, Dorothea Virginia Dennis at a Mondale/Ferraro political meeting in 1984. It was a true love story, and they married in June 1987.

Later in life, Kyle worked as a substitute teacher for TPS. He and Virginia also clowned in northeastern Oklahoma parades. Kyle considered Virginia's children his own and loved them.

He is survived by his wife, Dorothea Virginia Goddard; the children; and grandchildren he adored.

Kyle was buried with military honors at Memorial Park Cemetery, in Tulsa. www.fitzgeraldfuneralservice.com
