Louis Benavides Obituary

October 24, 1935 - August 16, 2016
Louis A. Benavides, age 80 of Beavercreek, Ohio, died August 16, 2016. The son of Luis M. and Ferol Perkins Benavides, Louis was born in Laredo, on October 24, 1935, but grew up in San Antonio. A multi-generational Texan on both sides of his family, his antecedents reflected prominent historical figures as diverse as South Texas itself. Louis graduated from the University of Texas in Austin, and later served as a Medic in the US Army. In 1959, he married the late Linda Hunter (Benavides), also of San Antonio, and began his career with the Air Force Logistics Command at Kelly AFB. When Louis was reassigned to Wright Patterson, where he managed advanced electronics and fighter aircraft programs, the family relocated to the Dayton area. Later, he had a two year assignment to Langley AFB and a six month assignment to the USAF Management School in Virginia. In addition to his professional accomplishments, Louis and his wife contributed to the greater Dayton area in various ways, especially, to both St David's and St Mark's Episcopal Churches. Louis was a man of many talents and broad interests. He taught computer applications at Wright State University, was a gourmet cook, also teaching this skill, a devotee of fine art, theater, classical music, and opera, and a fine musician in his own right. He was well read and widely traveled, but his family was always his foremost interest. Survivors include daughter, Kendall Benavides Rubino; son-in-law, Anthony J. Rubino; son, Hunter W. Benavides; sister, Ferol Benavides Dougherty; brother-in-law, Michael A. Dougherty, three grandchildren, three great-grandchildren, one niece and one nephew. Visitation will be Friday, August 26, from 5-8 PM at Tobias Funeral Home, Beavercreek. Services, August 27th at 1:00 PM at St. Mark's Episcopal Church, Dayton. Interment at Beaver Cemetery, Beavercreek will be followed by a reception at St Marks. Contributions in lieu of flowers may be sent to the Louis M. Benavides Scholarship fund at Development Office, One UTSA Circle, San Antonio, 78249.

My condolences to Louis's Family! We worked together at WPAFB in the AMIS Office for several years. Louis was intelligent, hard-working, and put Family first. It was much to my benefit to work with him and to have known Linda. Our more recent chats were in Krogers. He was always smiling and upbeat. He will be missed!! Joe Sowder

I am so sorry for your loss. I loved being close enough to hear him sing when at church. He always had a smile and a lovely hello for my girls. I am sending my thoughts and prayers to your family.
