Coyote Moon

Coyote Moon, 68, of National City, CA, passed away on July 11, 2023, after a nine-year battle with cancer. She was surrounded by her family and many loved ones at the time of her peaceful passing.
Moon was predeceased by her parents Delia Chavarria Tulio and Filomeno Laag Tulio. She is survived by ex-husband Richard Manes, son Henry Manes (Kam Kyrala), daughter Hannah Usher (Matthew Usher), grandson James Usher, and siblings Louise Sullivan (Christina Dimonde, Mark Sullivan, Dominique Marsh and Ryan Marsh); Patricia Beach (Teresa Fillmore, David Fillmore, John Castro, Jacob Castro, Jaxson Fillmore, Richard Castro, Michelle Castro, Anthony Janos, Ashley Williams, Carrie Lynn Williams, Terrence Williams, and Curtis Williams Jr); Laurence and Marcia Tulio (Christopher Tulio and Angela Tulio); and Ronald Tulio.
Moon was a dedicated San Diego sports fan, golfer, and swimmer. She was a fierce advocate for women's liberation and LGBTQIA+ rights. In 2020, the San Diego Union-Tribune highlighted her efforts in National City to repeal an anti-crossdressing ordinance that had been in place since the 1960s. In 2023, San Diego's Dykes on Bikes contingent memorialized Moon by wearing purple and carrying her photo in the Pride Parade.
She was active with the National City Library's Board of Trustees, National City Traffic Committee, Dykes on Bikes, WomenMoto, San Diego Democrats for Equality, San Diego LGBT Community Center, International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers Local Union 465, and many other organizations throughout the years.
Services will be announced once the family has determined a date. We ask that in lieu of flowers, donations be made in memory of Coyote Moon to San Diego LGBT Community Center, located at 3909 Centre St, San Diego, CA 92103.
