Jane Elizabeth Todd

Jane Todd Obituary

TODD, JANE ELIZABETH July 7, 1917 to October 31, 2008 Beloved mother of three, a grandmother of four, great-grandmother of five; a sister, an aunt, and a dear friend to so many, Jane was a native of Sacramento, a graduate of UC Berkeley, and longtime resident of Pacific Beach. A career social worker in child protective services, she was an advocate for the powerless and neglected in Sacramento and Los Angeles Counties. An omnivorous reader from an early age, and a fearless traveler through Europe, Africa, Asia and the Americas, she bestowed on her children her intellectual openness and adventurous spirit. Jane loved dancing, and playing bridge and doing crossword puzzles, and she did all three with panache and skill well into her eighties. She had a natural gift for cooking and was admired for her ability to prepare beautiful meals with ease. She had a capacity for bonding with women friends; young people took to her youthful spirit. She was fiercely opposed to institutional sexism, racism, and hypocrisy in general. She was a fine role model and she will be terribly missed by all her family and friends. Jane is survived by children, Michael Harris, Christina and Stephen Zubach; nieces, Cathy Wilson, Nancy Gimblin, and Jean Cress; nephew, Ken Gimblin, daughter-in-law, Susan Harris, grandchildren, Jeffrey Harris , Peter Harris, and Victoria Brosnan.
