Kenneth G. Patterson

Patterson, Kenneth G. SAN DIEGO -- Kenneth G. Patterson, Sr, passed away of cancer at his home in Del Cerro, on March 21st, 2015. Ken was 87. Ken was the youngest of four children, the first to be born in the United States of immigrant parents from Scotland. Ken is survived by his wife of 68 years, Alice Ann Patterson; his son, Kenneth G. Patterson, Jr, of Lake Tahoe, CA; his daughters, Gail Anne Patterson and April Michelle' Gulan of East County, San Diego. Ken lost his eldest daughter, Catherine to cancer in 1996. He is also survived by 10 grand- children and 10 great- grandchildren. A resident of San Diego for over 50 years, Ken served in the U.S. Navy for 22 years and retired from military service in 1963. Ken was a veteran of three wars: WW11, Korea and Vietnam. Ken began his military service at the age of 15. After retiring from the Navy, Ken retired in San Diego and went on have a highly successful business as a State Farm Insurance Agent. Ken was an active member of the La Mesa Sunrise Rotary Club for over 25 years. Through his Rotary service, Ken helped his community through donations and hands-on service. Ken had a global interest to serve, and through Rotary Ken traveled to South America to assist impoverished women establish small business bank loans. Ken worked to raise funds and helped establish the San Diego Wounded Warriors Wood-Turning Program. Ken actively raised funds through sales of his beautiful wood-turning pieces and his active membership in Rotary. Ken was a member of the Wood-Turners Assoc. of San Diego. Ken was known to his family and friends an old- world craftsman with extraordinary carpentry skills, learned from his carpenter father in his youth and honed throughout his life. Funeral Services will be held on Tuesday, March 31st at 10 am at El Cajon Mortuary: Public viewing from 9:00 am to 10:00 am, followed by a full military burial at Miramar National Cemetery, beginning at 12:30pm.
