Mariee-- You are the most amazing woman and I miss you terribly. There is not a minute, hour, or day that goes by that you are not on my mind. Our life together was cut short, but the time we had was the most amazing time I have ever had. I try not to get angry because I was one of the lucky ones.. One of the few who really get to experience true happiness. Thank you for loving me and thank you for making me laugh. My life will never be the same..but you are right here with me...always in my heart. I love you Mariee!!

Hey Mariee! Just thinking about you. I was cleaning up some of my old emails and came across yours. I couldn't help but read it over and over again. Sounds corny, but it's my little piece of you that I still have. I never got the chance to tell you this, but I'll tell you now...I want to thank you. Thank you for being you...thank you for being my friend and being a part of my life & Mia's life. It meant alot to me. Mia still has the OU socks you bought her for Christmas. She's keeping them as a reminder of you. Wish you could be here to meet your other new cousin David, he looks just like Mia! But in time...we will see you again. On Oct 6th 2009 my son received Mariee's kidney and she gave him life. He is 12 years old and his kidney is fuctioning at 100%. I encourage every one to be a organ donor. once again thanks!!

My name is Richard Mena. Mariee was my cousin, well more like a sister to me. Well Mariee, it has nearly been 2 months since I last saw you. Not a day goes by that I don't think of you. It has been very difficult for me, I still sometimes call your cell phone to hear your voice.(how corny is that)Thanksgiving was good, the family was all together, and most of all you were in all of our thought's and prayers. I miss you so much Mariee. The last 4 days that we spent together in the hospital I will keep them in my heart forever..Baby you looked GREAT!!! Baby I use to say "If I had 1 wish it would be 1 million dollars" But today and forever it is just one more hug from you. X-MAS is right around the corner Mariee. i cant blieve someone so young is gone already! i remember playing softball with mariee since we were both young. im sitting here trying to think of something to write, and all i can seem to do is smile. mariee brings back nothing but good memories. she was ALWAYS happy and smiling and making jokes . . there was no way you could be in a bad mood when she was around. what a shame for all the people who never got to meet her and share in her laughter. she loved life, every minute, and we should all be so grateful of ours and try to love and to smile like marie always did. you will be missed babe. my condolences to all her family and friends xo

Our family was bless to have been touched by Mariee's love for life. She was so much fun to watch playing Tennis, Volleyball and Softball. Her big heart. We remember going out to watch her play and she always made sure she thanked us for coming. She showed Brenda you have to practice hard and Play hard. Our family has many memories traveling with her, sing in the car, getting us lost, and her making us laugh all the time.

Bright, beautiful and a great teammate! I'm so lucky to say that I knew Mariee. Her smile could make you feel like nothing in the world could go wrong! " Where a beautiful soul has been, there are beautiful memories." Ree was that beautiful soul and my memories are nothing short of amazing, hilarious....beautiful. She regularly made people laugh so hard they cried, and in some cases even pee their pants. She was a fierce teammate and continually pushed you to be a better person, and a better player. She was well loved by everyone, and anyone that knew her...she would consider a friend. No one ever gave more meaning to the word friend, than Ree herself. I will forever be greatful to have known Mariee. Today I said goodbye to an angel but I say thank you for the way she brightened my life, even though God granted her such a short life. I've sat here and read through all the messages and know how much she was loved by so many poeple from Florida to Japan!
The Renegades love her. Even the Breakers love her! They posted a memorial on their website, too.
Mariee touched so many people! She touched me and my family thru you. Her love of softball came from her Daddy. I think that's why her departure is so hard. YouandMariee are like so many Dads and their daughters. I cannot fathom your lose.

Mariee lit up the softball world. People come along in our lives who make an impression and she left an imprint on our hearts that will be there forever. As serious as I would try to remain while coaching you, you would always find a way to tap into the lighthearted side of me, and remind me of the importance of having fun. To the Mena Family,
First of all what a beautiful service to remember her life by. I can so relate to Marissa, being a girly girl myself...how you and Mariee interacted. She was always giving me that look when she disapproved of my fashionista ways or if I was being to soft and not tough enough with the students. I taught with her in the same classroom tutoring Math and English at Hefner for Middle Schoolers all last year. She was always playing gags on me and the kids and I remember she would tease me over my collection of purses. Then one day she showed up with a black silver-studded purse. She was so proud to show it off. She loved those kids and they loved her. They had so much respect for her. She would get all smiles if I brought her McDonalds Biscuits in the morning for our break and sometimes she would even seek a student out to share with who she felt needed it more than her. When she first started she would sneak down and get food in the school cafeteria with one of the teacher's accounts who allowed access to it, but by the 2nd month the cafeteria ladies were greeting her by name and filling her tray with whatever she wanted for FREE! They even made special treats just for Mariee! She would just laugh and smile and think it was so funny. She would always rub it in that SHE, Mariee was a favorite with the lunch ladies. NO ONE got that treatment. Those ladies counted every last pea! She did so many fun things with the students too. Once she made and played Jeapordy with Literacy skills for our students and she made me be Vanna and of course she was Pat Sajac! She even made them do a Math Rap... and Lord her skills at Rapping... (Hip Hop)... were not good!... but she made everyone of those kids learn it and want to do it and recite it. Their reward was an oversized candy bar if they mastered it. They learned in the most easiest ways from her. She was there every single day and giving it her all. I was the one with the teaching degree but I let her take charge since she was there everyday and I was only there 2 days. I always told her, "Mariee, I am your assistant, do as you please!" Than I would summon Adrienne and Lise and proclaim,"She's a natural and if you don't get her to declare teaching and teach at this school... your nuts and you're going to lose out on one of the BEST!" She was truly amazing. She spoke of her family and of her brother's wedding and she would call Dad for advise. She loved you all so much. I have shed many tears over her death, but I know her memories will live on forever. I guess I just wanted to share this with you, her family to give you an insight on how Proud she made the Mena name. God be with you and keep you in his heavenly grace.

I have so many memories growing up with Mariee. Renegades/Escondido softball games, Bonfires in La Jolla, and of course her OU recruiting trip my freshman year. However one memory that sticks out the most is us getting ready for her upcoming freshman year at OU. I was always so proud of Mariee and sometimes jealous of her success with softball. I will miss her so much and everything we did share together. I can not even understand how hard of a time this is for your family. You will always be in my thoughts and prayers.

I still remember the morning that I received a phone call telling me to start praying for Mariee. I prayed hard. I am thankful that I had the opportunity to work with Mariee here at Windsor Hills Elementary. She was already making an impact on my students lives, the way only she could. She was a gentle, but yet powerful teacher,encourager and friend. I will never forget her. I will be praying for you all. I pray that God will grant you peace and understanding as you try to continue down this journey called life. I am sorry to hear of your great loss. Mariee was such a wonderful child and friend to us. Your family has been a source of joy for me as I've watched your children growing up. You are a beautiful family and now to hear of Mariee's death, it just makes my heart heavy with sadness. Please know that your family are in my thoughts and prayers. Mariee lived everyday of her life without wanting to miss one thing that life might offer. I remember her roller-skating to music on our back patio with Natalie and Elise. She skated as if she was competing in the roller derby, laughing and smiling ear to ear. Her competitive spirit, outgoing nature and passion for life is what gave her the ability to light up a room, a patio, or a stadium with her smile. The last time she visited with me, Mariee expressed how much she loved coaching and true to form, she gave 100% plus of herself. She was so proud of those children and called them her own.
"Some people come into our lives, leave footprints on our hearts, and we are never the same". The memory of Mariee will always be in our hearts.

To the family and friends of Mariee, my thoughts and prayers are with you through this difficult time. I remember her always walking into the gym with that "Whatcha got for me Coach?" attitude with a big smile on her face; always ready for a challenge and ready to have fun. Thank you for sharing Mariee with us. Our hearts are broken, Mariee was such a wonderful and caring person. Jessica lost her Grandpa a couple of years ago and he was her biggest sooner fan. He had a blast teasing Mariee when he came to watch them play. I am sure he and Mariee are watching and talking softball while they watch over all of you. Our thoughts and prayers are with you.
