Patricia Kennedy Obituary

Patricia Eloise Kennedy April 16, 1931 - March 13, 2018 San Diego Patricia Eloise Kennedy, a native of New York, died peacefully in her Bankers Hill home Tuesday afternoon at the age of 86. A San Diegan since 1956, "Pat" as she was known by her family and friends, was very active with local charity, civic and political activities. Born and reared in the Bronx, Pat was the youngest of 5 children and followed in her eldest sister's footsteps attending nursing school in New York City. When she completed her training, she worked for a private practice physician in upper Manhattan. After the Korean War ended, Pat would visit her sister, Jeanette, a Navy nurse and brother in law, a Navy pilot, here in San Diego. It was her brother in law who introduced Pat to a young Navy ensign serving in the JAG Corps at 32nd Street. They dated, became engaged and were married within six months in Pat's hometown, Bronx, NY, December 1956. They returned and made San Diego their home for the next 62 years. Married for 58 years, Pat and her husband Bill (d. 2014) spent their lives rearing four children and both understood the importance of serving the community. Pat was very supportive of her husband Bill's career - Assistant District Attorney; United States Attorney for San Diego and Imperial Counties and retiring after many years serving as San Diego Superior Court Judge. During that time, Pat volunteered with local charitable causes: as she a founding member of the board for Fr. Joe's Villages as well as the Women's Bar Auxiliary of San Diego. Pat was also a founding member of Las Cuestas Republican Women supporting local, state and national campaigns. Pat will also be remembered by her volunteer work with the Mercy Hospital Auxiliary. A devout Catholic, she actively participated in the family's parish - Immaculate Conception Church in Old Town. She believed in giving back to those who were less fortunate. Pat will be remembered for her strong "New York" personality and ability to lead by example. You always knew where Pat stood on any issue. Most importantly, Pat was a devoted wife, loving mother and treasured her seven grandchildren. Pat is survived by her daughter, Margaret Kennedy of San Diego, son, Kevin Kennedy (Sherry) of Jamul Zaidy, Kylie, William and Wyatt, Aileen Kennedy Weber (Chip) of Anthem, Arizona Alexandra and Katelyn, and James Kennedy of San Diego -Henry. Services will be held on Thursday, March 22 at the Church of the Immaculate Conception in Old Town. Rosary and Visitation will begin at 10:30 a.m. with Mass of Christian Burial at 11:00am. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in memory of Pat Kennedy to Fr. Joe's Villages. my.neighbor.org
