Bruce Bevans Obituary

Bruce Bevans
July 7, 1944 - April 13, 2021
Atascadero, California - Bruce T. Bevans was born July 7, 1944 in Fresno, California; shortly after his birth the family moved back to Tenafly NJ, where he grew up and graduated from high school. After high school, Bruce attended Steven's Institute of Technology. He then joined the U.S. Army and became a helicopter pilot. Serving in Vietnam, Bruce earned a Bronze Star and a Purple Heart, flying over 500 missions. He was honorably discharged at the rank of CW2 – Chief Warrant Officer Two. He later earned his private pilot's license and enjoyed flights as a civilian pilot.
After his discharge, Bruce moved to California and worked for 20 years as an engineer in the plastics industry. He married Kaye Rasband in 1993. With her encouragement, Bruce made a career change. Earning his B.S. and a Master's degree in Education, he became a high school physics teacher.
Bruce was an avid downhill skier, hiker, camper, and traveler, with a passion for the environment. Bruce and Kaye relished their life together in San Pedro before transitioning to what would become their retirement home in Atascadero, California. As an active member of the Atascadero Kiwanis Club, Bruce worked on local projects, headed the Toys for Tots program and received several Distinguished Service Awards.
Bruce passed away peacefully on Tuesday, April 13, 2021 following a long battle with cancer. He was preceded in death by his father Michael, mother Jeanne, and sister Melinda. He is survived by his wife Kaye Rasband of Atascadero, stepsons Matthew (Heather) and Ryan (Cha) Rasband and grandchildren Avery, Nathan, and Annalynn Rasband. Bruce also leaves his brother Chris Bevans of Middletown, CT along with numerous family, friends, and fellow Kiwanians. A patriot, unifier, and environmentalist, Bruce will be missed for his intelligence, calm demeanor, and friendly smile. A celebration of life will be held at a later date.
