Johanna Wethly Obituary

Johanna Wethly Anderson, 86, passed away peacefully on Christmas morning in her Saratoga home with family present. She is survived by her three children, Lars, Claude and Zoe Anderson, her brother, Richard Wethly and her granddaughters, Hannah and Anika Anderson as well as numerous nieces and nephews in the U.S. and Europe.Johanna, (Joosje) was born in The Hague, Netherlands in 1936 to Frans Wethly, an executive vice president for Allied Chemicals, and Johanna Dorgelo Wethly. At the age of 4, she and her family fled Holland when Germany invaded at the advent of World War II. Their journey took them to Portugal, then Cuba before eventually settling in Manhasset, Long Island. Joosje attended Skidmore College and earned a Bachelor degree in fine arts. While at Skidmore she met and married her first husband, Arthur Jeffrey Anderson in 1958 and they resided in Saratoga. After three children they separated in 1970. Soon after she was hired by the Office of Publications at Skidmore College where she served as assistant director and then director. Joosje would frequently be seen walking to and from Skidmore during her 25 years at the college. While working and raising her children, Joosje met her second husband, Siegfried Boehm. They shared a love for the outdoors and spent much of their time hiking and camping in the Adirondacks. After her second husband passed away, Joosje continued hiking well into her 70s, frequently on her favorite trail up Buck Mountain on the shores of Lake George. She enjoyed cozy gatherings with friends and a martini in hand. Joosje lived a full life and is remembered for her warmth, compassion and vitality.Memorial service to be held at a later dateIn lieu of flowers contributions to the Adirondack Council (Adirondackcouncil.org) are suggested https://www.lastingmemories.com/johanna-maria-wethly

A great friend and neighbor, a joyful soul and a perfect example of life. There is no one word that can describe this heartfelt, caring and creative individual always with so much to share. I will remember the evening martinis and great conversation. I will raise a last martini to you my friend. You will be sorrowfully missed.
My condolences to a great family.

To Claude, Lars, Zoe, and all who loved Joosje, I wish you all sweet remembrances of this wonderful woman. I was lucky to call her friend and to work with her every day at Skidmore, where she was the epitome of grace, elegance, talent, professionalism, and class. She had exquisite taste and and she was a kind and generous colleague. I'm grateful to have known her and will never forget her.
