Adel Mobarak Obituary

Adel Abdullah Mobarak
Born: June 23, 1941 in Cairo, Egypt
Died: May 28, 2023 in Cairo, Egypt
Adel Abdullah Mobarak passed away peacefully on May 28, 2023, in Cairo, Egypt. He was 81 years old. Adel was the loving father of four children: George (Krista), Aaron (Maureen), Elizabeth, and Nahed. He was a proud grandfather to Adeline, Mason, Harry, Hannah, Myles, Caroline, Delia, Martha, Rabab, Khaled, and Youssef and step-grandfather to Linda (Ethan) Newlin; and he was a beloved uncle to his many nieces and nephews. He is also survived by three of his six cherished sisters: Fadia, Arzak, and Mona. He was preceded in death by his parents, Abdullah and Hanem; his two brothers, Galal and Gamal; and sisters, Karima, Nariman, and Sadaya.
Adel was born and raised in Cairo, Egypt. His family was in the tourism industry in the city of Giza near the Great Pyramids. Adel joined the family business after completing a degree in Egyptology from Cairo University. He was a Cairo-based tour guide in the 1960s when one tour changed his life forever. This tour included Mary Lindquist from Dixon, Illinois. After several years of correspondence and visits, Adel immigrated to Dixon where he and Mary married and raised their family. Adel became a US citizen in 1973, loved this country, was very proud to be an American, and was grateful for the opportunities and the life he was able to build here.
In Dixon, Adel and Mary purchased Rock River Ready Mix from Mary's parents, George and Elizabeth Lindquist, and Adel made his career in ready-mixed concrete and aggregates. He grew and modernized the business over many decades while providing high-quality concrete for countless construction projects throughout the Rock River Valley. Along the way, Adel served as President of the Illinois Ready Mixed Concrete Association, and he contributed generously to the Dixon and Sterling communities. For the last thirty-five years, Adel partnered in the business with his son, George. The two were wonderful business partners, and George continues to run the business today as a third-generation owner-operator. George's son, Mason, now works in the business bridging to the fourth generation. All of this made Adel incredibly proud.
Anyone who knew Adel will tell you that meeting Adel was knowing Adel. He never held anything back, and you always knew exactly where you stood with him. Adel brought incredible energy to every room he entered, he moved in close for conversations, and he shared his opinions - vigorously and usually more than once. He worked hard, he played hard, and he loved hard. That was Adel, and no one could imagine him any other way. If you were Adel's friend, there was nothing in the world he wouldn't do for you. Literally nothing. And if you got on Adel's bad side, you were going to hear about it. He was a package deal and authentic in every way. The world is a little less interesting today without Adel in it.
As they say in Islam, may God bless his soul.
