Sandra J New Chase - HILTON HEAD ISLAND, SC - On January 2nd, 2016, Sandra J New Chase peacefully passed to be with the Lord as her husband and 3 daughters were by her side at St. Joseph's/Candler Hospital in Savannah, GA. Ironically this was where she was born in 1942. Sandra had fought a long battle from numerous health issues over the last several years. Sandra was an amazing and devoted wife, mother and grandmother. Originally raised in Atlanta, GA, Sandra graduated from Emory University where she was a Delta Delta Delta and enjoyed competing in numerous beauty pageants. She won the title of Miss Georgia and went on to compete in the Miss World with dance as her talent. Sandra then left Atlanta where she had many exciting opportunities to travel with her career all over the country including Chicago, IL where she met her future husband to be of 39 years. She then transitioned from Chicago to Hilton Head Island and settled in 1972 where she and her husband married and began their family. Sandra worked for the executives in the early development of Palmetto Dunes. Interestingly, one of her early assignments was directing traffic when the original turn bridge to the Island was broken from being hit by a barge. Sandra also assisted in the construction of the Hyatt Hotel, now known as the Marriott Hotel. Sandra then owned her own private secretarial business, and was an integral part of founding the family appraisal business. Prior to her failing health, Sandra was very involved with her husband, three daughters and their interests and several community activities including her church and Programs for Exceptional People (PEP). Sandra is preceded in death by her mother of Hilton Head Island, Helen C. New and her father of Dublin, GA, James S. New. She is survived by her husband Richard C. (Rick) Chase; Her three daughters: Kimberly J. Chase, Lisa Chase-Ruhl and husband Andy, and Amanda M. Chase; 5 grandchildren: Kaylee Ehlers, Noah Ehlers, Lincoln Crawford, Cassie Ruhl and Chase Ruhl; sister-in-law Peggy Chase of Fl and an aunt and numerous cousins in Dublin and middle GA. A service will be held on Tuesday, January 12, 2016 at St Andrew By The Sea United Methodist Church at 11:00 with a celebration reception to follow immediately. Child care will be provided.
