Elvington, Jr.

FLORENCE – Leo Giles Elvington, Jr., 77, died Sunday morning, December 27, 2020, after an extended illness.

He was born in Mullins, SC, on December 31, 1942, a son of the late Leo G. Elvington, Sr., and Grace Boughner Elvington. He was raised in Dillon, graduated from Dillon High School and attended Wofford College. He was in industrial sales most of his life.

Leo was active in his church, Central United Methodist Church. He was a member of the Sara Blanton Sunday School Class and the Methodist Men. He also worked in the Beds Ministry constructing beds for children of the Florence community. He was a member of McLeod Men and the Sertoma Club.

Leo was a member and past board member of the Florence Country Club, where he enjoyed many years playing golf and tennis. He also coached youth baseball and basketball for a number of years.

He is survived by his wife, Susan Smith Elvington; five children, Marnie Carter (King), Gil Elvington (Lynn), Brice Elvington (Kim), Zan Krysty (Dan), and Morgan Walker (Michael); nine grandchildren, Megann McKinney, King Carter, Hampton Elvington, Katie Brice Elvington, Bowen Elvington, Huntley Elvington, Liza Walker, Ward Walker, and June Elizabeth Krysty; and a sister, Mildred McCaskill.

A Memorial Service will be held at 2:00 p.m., Thursday, December 31, 2020, at Central United Methodist Church, directed by Waters-Powell Funeral Home. All recommended COVID precautions will be required. For those unable to attend, the service will be live-streamed at https://youtu.be/sMVEvdyhKFc.
