Jessica "Jessi" Guggenberger, 37 of Mankato, died Monday, September 26 at her home.
Memorial service will be held at 3pm, Saturday, October 1 at Bethlehem Lutheran Church (720 South 2nd Street, Mankato, MN 56001) with visitation starting at 1pm. Pastor Collette Broady Grund will be officiating. Please share a memory of Jessi with her family and view her video tribute when it becomes available online at www.mankatomortuary.com.

Jessica was born November 22, 1978 in St. Cloud to Tom and Linda (Pirkl) Guggenberger. She graduated from St. Cloud Tech High School and earned a Bachelor of Arts degree from Minnesota State University Moorhead. From an early age, Jessi excelled in sports and was a year-round athlete, including soccer, basketball, softball, and cross country skiing. On August 26, 2014, Jessica was united in marriage to Jill Norman in the backyard of their home. They shared many hobbies and interests, including hunting, spending time outdoors, flower and vegetable gardening, photography, and riding motorcycles. She was currently a K-12 art teacher at Lake Crystal Wellcome Memorial Schools and loved her students. Described as energetic, happy, caring, loving, and selfless, Jessi's infectious laughter will be missed by many.
She is survived by her wife, Jill Norman of Mankato; parents, Linda and Tom Guggenberger of St. Cloud; brother, Lee (Jessica) Guggenberger of Sauk Rapids and their children Ella and Aiden; maternal grandmother, Regina Pirkl of St. Joseph; aunts and uncles, Angie Nelson, Bob Guggenberger, Pat Guggenberger, Dan Guggenberger, Mary Jo Guggenberger, Carl (Terri) Guggenberger, Mary Kay (Urban) Warnert, Gary (Dorene) Pirkl, Bob Pirkl, and many cousins. Jessica is also survived by Jill's family, including her father, Doug Norman of Montevideo; brother, Jim (Onesta) Norman and their children Jimmy, Andy, Shakara, Hamidah and Taheerah; sister, Pam (Randy) Westman and their son, Hunter; 3 great-nieces and 2 great-nephews.
Jessica is preceded in death by her paternal grandparents, Claude and Clara Guggenberger; maternal grandfather, Bob Pirkl; mother-in-law, Margaret Norman; and uncles, Charlie Nelson, Gary Oleson, Roger Petron, and Ervin Guggenberger.

Listening to my daughter and all of her friends, I can say Jess will live on in a piece of each of them, there will be sadness, and anger but also lots of goodness and heartfelt laughter. Jess was like the big sister I never had and took me under her wing on the Tech soccer team. Even though she was 2 classes ahead of me, she never made me feel inferior, and always treated me as a peer. Jess drove me from Tech to practice every day and during that time we'd sing our hearts out. The world will miss her kind soul.

We had the pleasure of getting to know Jessi for a couple years when she babysat for our boys in the neighborhood. We remember her huge smile and gleeming personality. I am so deeply sorry for your loss. Jessi and I grew up down the block from one another and I remember shooting hoops in my driveway and playing bball together for Tech. Her laugh and joy were always a blast to be around. I moved to Mankato 3 years ago and loved when I would meet a student who had attended or currently attended Lake Crystal. I would ask if they had my friend for art class and they would always have great things to say about Jessi. She was loved and made a difference to many. My heart is broken for the family and friends of our dear Jessi girl. She was one of a kind and embodied the pure definition of love and compassion.
