Julianne Kane Obituary

KENNEBUNK - Julianne Kane, 57, of Kennebunk, died Saturday, Oct. 30, 2010, at home, following a courageous battle with breast cancer.

Raised by her grandparents, Harvard and Emily (Reed) Kane, Julianne graduated from Ellsworth High School in 1971 and moved to Portland - to train at the Maine Medical Center as a surgical technologist. She spent much of her professional career in the field of orthopedics, which included working for Maine Coast Orthopedic Associates as a physician's assistant. She was the first woman to be elected president of the New England Society of Orthopedic Technologist and she authored several articles that were published in national orthopedic journals.

In 1997, Julianne changed careers and started Front Porch Antiques Shop on Route 1 in Arundel. For nearly eight years she single-handedly operated the successful antiques store and café. During this time, Julianne also contributed to the local community by serving on the Zoning Board of Appeals and the Coastal Committee for the City of Biddeford, as well as the Planning Board for the town of Arundel.

In recent years, Julianne worked as a certified property appraiser throughout New England. She was dedicated to helping seniors citizens in Maine and helped found the Maine Senior Resource Alliance.

Julianne faced every day with a sense of adventure and intent. She was a wonderful cook and an avid world traveler. She always kept a special place in her heart for England and the U.S. Virgin Islands, both of which she visited often.

Above all that she accomplished in her life, she was most proud of her family, which she considered to be her greatest accomplishment.

She is survived by her husband, Gerald Aumand; daughter Carrie (Voisine) Nash and son-in-law, Peter Nash; stepdaughters Daria Aumand, Natalie Ahern, Larissa Aumand, and Alicia Pantaleo; grandchildren Patrick, Katie, Molly and Rory Ahern, Haydn and Samantha Pantaleo, and Zander Nash; and brothers and sisters Forrest Kane of Florence, Colo., Danny Kane of Lisbon, Conn., Victoria McLean of Preston, Conn., Bruce Kane of Nalcrest, Fla., and Brenda Keegan of Canterbury, Conn.; as well as 12 nieces and nephews.

She will also be sadly missed and joyously remembered by many dear family members and friends throughout the world.

A private ceremony will be held for her family. In lieu of flowers, those wishing to pay their respects are invited to send a donation in memory of Julianne Kane to the Cancer Community Center, 778 Main St., South Portland, ME 04106. Arrangements are in care of Bibber Memorial Chapel, 67 Summer St., Kennebunk. www.bibberfuneral.com

Julianne - Rest in peace. You left us far too soon! I'll always remember your generous spirit and helpful ways. You were always willing to do a little extra. You donated your time and talents to raise funds for Portland Kiwanis, and you helped me identify special items in my home. You will always be a part of all of that.
God bless and prayers to you and your family.

Our deepest sympathies to the family of Julianne. She was one of a kind, the friendship we shared came from the heart. I will always remember the days of working with her at the old farm house getting it ready to open as The Front Porch Antiques, memorable days and evenings, ones that my wife and I will always cherish. God bless all of you and you will be in our prayers...
