Margaret Bridges Obituary

YORK - Margaret Sue "Peggy" Bridges (Hackett), 82, died peacefully Thursday, May 10, 2018 in Wells, Maine due to complications from Alzheimer's Disease.

Peggy was born July 9, 1935 in Milo, Maine to her parents Deno and Evelyn Hackett. After the family moved to York, Maine, she went to York High School where she enjoyed playing basketball, graduated with high honors and was a delegate for Girls' State. Peggy was a true "Village girl," having lived and worked in the York Village her entire young life. She spent her summers working for AT&T (or Ma Bell as it was known) and went to work there full time after she graduated high school. She also worked the soda fountain at Cox's and Hawkes Drug Store and could be seen driving around town with her older brother John in his green Dodge. Peggy married John Bridges, the love of her life, in October of 1955, and the two built a great life for themselves and their four children at their home on Logging Road in Cape Neddick, Maine.

Peggy loved spending time with her family, going to see plays at the Ogunquit Playhouse, planting flowers in her flower garden, and taking long beach walks on Ogunquit Beach. She loved skiing at Sugarloaf Mountain and spent many winters there with her family, working at the ski shop and becoming a lifelong Sugarloafer. She had an infectious smile and positive attitude that allowed her to better the lives of everyone she encountered, from longtime friends to customers at the ski shop.

Peggy is survived by her two brothers, John Hackett of Oxford, Maine and Bill Hackett of York, Maine; her husband John Bridges of Cape Neddick, Maine; their four children, David Bridges and his wife Cara Bridges, of York, Maine, Michael Bridges and his wife Maureen Flanagan, of Appleton, Maine, James Bridges and his wife Viktoriia Bridges, of Las Vegas, Nevada, and Martha Sue Turner and her husband Robert Turner, of Kittery, Maine; and two granddaughters, Jessica Turner of Williamsburg, Virginia and Abigail Turner of Washington, D.C.

Peggy's family would like to extend special thanks to the wonderful staff at Avita of Wells, Maine for taking such good care of her in her final years. Peggy lived her life in constant love with family and friends. In lieu of sending flowers, we would be grateful if you would honor Peggy by thinking of her and spending some extra time with your loved ones - she would have wanted nothing more than to see those she knew with friends and family, and happy.

A memorial service will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday, May 26 in the Lucas & Eaton Funeral Home, 91 Long Sands Road, York, Maine. Burial will be private in the First Parish Cemetery. Visit www.lucaseatonfuneralhome.com.
