Brian Fox Obituary

Brian Michael Fox

Brian Michael Fox was born on July 1st, 1969, in Seattle Washington and died just before this Christmas, in New York City, from complications related to diabetes. Brian was a loving partner, beloved son and nephew, and will be missed by countless friends in Washington, New York and around the world.

A caring and patient individual wise beyond his years, Brian cultivated an early and obvious love for both playing the guitar and traveling the world. He moved to New York City in 1999, where he and his partner of 17 years, Amparo Tamayo, whom he called the love of his life, enjoyed exploring New York City, and the world, together. His engaging personality helped him to make friends easily during the course of many trips abroad, including to his family's native country of Ireland.

Over the years, Brian sought a balance of both art and adventure. He demonstrated an everlasting affection for animals and deep respect for everyone he met. His open mind and gentle spirit was influential and Brian always encouraged others to pursue their own dreams. He delighted friends with his witty humor and expansive knowledge of film, music, and literature.

His sudden death stunned his colleagues in the technology field where he worked. Brian was more than a coworker to his colleagues, he was a mentor and friend.

All who knew Brian agree that he was a special person with an immensely generous and imaginative heart.

Brian is survived by his mother, Margaret Fox; Amparo Tamayo, who he called the love of his life; numerous aunts, uncles and cousins; and his cat, Spooky. There will be a Mass in honor of Brian at the Chapel of St. Ignatius at the Seattle University on Sunday, January 20th at 4pm. Donations in honor of Brian Fox are being directed by the family to http://main.diabetes.org/

I was fortunate to know Brian during my Seattle days, and remember well what a nice person Brian was and what a lovely couple he and Amparo were. I am so sorry to hear of Brian's passing.

My condolences to Amparo and all of Brian's family and friends. Brian was the "Go to Guy" for many issues, problems, or complaints and he resolved them with aplomb. His great sense of logic and innate knack for troubleshooting made him a natural IT person who had that special ability to engage people from all walks of life. His love of movies and sports, especially basketball, coupled with his wonderful sense of humor made him a person loved and appreciated by all.
Brian once told me that he wasn't afraid to take the game winning shot, and indeed he wasn't - and he made them with "all net and no rim". I remember his admiration of Bill Russell, and "the glass" he so treasured, and whenever Bill Russell pops up in the news I always think of Brian, a kind and generous man who was a star player in all of our lives. My thoughts and prayers are with you Amparo, Brian's mother, and all your family.

Brian did work for me that was timely, imaginative and complete. And his efforts were always carried out with a smile and with humor. Congratulations to him on a life well lived.
