Etta Holt Obituary

Etta Mae (HARDEN) HOLT (1917-2004) Etta was born July 19, 1917, in Alliance, NE, to Selmer "Doc" and Mertie Mae Fulliton. Her early years were spent on a homestead ranch southeast of Lakeside, NE. Later her family moved into Lakeside, where her father operated a gas station and garage and her mother ran a cafe. On October 6, 1934, she married Clarence "Hap" Harden and they had two sons, Charles and Robert. In 1948 they moved in Oregon. After the death of her first husband in 1960, she married Russell Holt of Albany, OR, on April 16, 1965, who passed away in October of the same year. She moved to Seattle in 1966 and began working for the United States Postal Services and retired in 1982. She often marveled at all the technological changes she had known, from living in a sod house with horse-and-buggy and Model T transportation to seeing space travel and men land on the moon. She was an avid reader on American history. She was a passionate gardener who always recreated a patch of agrarian Nebraska wherever she lived. She is survived by her son, Charles (and Drema) Harden of Nashville, TN, Robert Harden and his wife, Maryetta Healy, of Seattle, and her beloved grandson, Brendan Healy, of Chicago. She was preceded in death by her other beloved grandson, Sheamus Timothy Healy-Harden. She is also survived by four step-children, Roewayne "Skip" Holt of New Bern, NC; James Holt of Arcata, CA; Valerie Miller and Judy Keeling, both of Eagle's Point, OR. Etta passed away after a brief battle with brain cancer on May 26, 2004, at the age of 86. The family wishes to acknowledge the generous and kind support of the Group Health hospice program during Etta's final illness which allowed her to remain at home with Rob and Maryetta. At her request, an informal memorial gathering will be held Sat., June 19th at 2:00 p.m., at her long time residence in North City. For details call 206-297-3429. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to: The Cystic Fibrosis Foundation, 520 Pike Street, Suite 1075, Seattle, WA 98101.

To Charles and Robert,

I am the daughter of Don Mitchell, from Valentine, NE. I just wanted to extend my sympathy during this time of sorrow for you. I had the pleasure of meeting your mother and found her so interesting to talk to. I know the "Mitchell" clan was very happy to have gain the acquaintance of their long loss Fulliton cousin. My Uncle Dean Mitchell was nice enough to send the obituary to me, via email.

She will be missed.

God bless you and your families.
