George Reeves Obituary

George C. Reeves

George Reeves died peacefully February 3, 2014, with his wife Joan at his side. George was a gentle, non-judgmental man who saw the good in everyone. He will be deeply missed by his family and friends.

George was born April 21, 1919, in Honolulu, Territory of Hawaii to parents Lewis Reeves and Julia Cunningham Reeves. He attended Punahou School, Iolani School, and the University of Hawaii. After leaving the UH he began work as a cashier at Castle & Cooke Ltd. He served in WW II, in the US Army on Okinawa. George loved music, particularly big band and jazz. He played drums most weekends in many Honolulu clubs, playing for a time with Arthur Lyman. One of his favorite memories was playing in a combo for Ethel Merman at a private party.

In 1953 George married Joan Hutchins, and they made a home in Manoa Valley. Their first son, David, was born in Honolulu in 1954. In 1957, they moved to Seattle, settling in Lake Forest Park. Son Michael was born in 1957. In Seattle, George began his career with several stock brokerages, beginning with Pacific Northwest, then Herron NW, which became Piper, Jaffray, Inc. George was head cashier and was known for his special care with clients and brokers alike.

After retirement, George and Joan moved to a condominium in Fremont, where he lived until his death.

George is survived by his wife, Joan, his son David (Cyndee) in Spokane, his son Michael (Louisa) in Golden, Co, and his treasured granddaughter Peyton, in Spokane.

At George's request, there will be no service. Memorials in his memory may be sent to the Union Gospel Mission, or to any organization working for hand gun control.

I met George only briefly, but send my loving support to Joan and their sons, who will find comfort in many good memories. His presence will be with you forever.
