Jeanne Marks Obituary

Jeanne Marie Marks

1933 ~ 2012

Jeanne Marks, 78, passed away at her daughter's home in Boise, ID, on June 11, 2012, after a courageous battle with lung cancer. Born December 21, 1933 to Lucille and Wallace Butts in Belle Fourche, SD, she graduated from Olympia High School in 1951 as valedictorian. She obtained a degree in pharmacy from the University of Washington in 1955, receiving Phi Beta Kappa honors. She was a member of Pi Beta Phi sorority where she made many lifelong friends, with whom she had treasured reunions including trips to Italy.

Jeanne married Stanley G. Marks in 1957 and had one daughter, Melinda. After living in Boise and Los Angeles, they settled in Bellevue, WA. They enjoyed skiing, fishing and boating as members of Meydenbauer Bay Yacht Club. In 1974 they built their treasured summer home at Davis Head on Lopez Island enjoying salmon fishing, crabbing, clamming, beach picnics and Fourth of July fireworks.

Jeanne was a dedicated pharmacist for Group Health for 27 years and retired to Lopez Island in 1995. She was actively involved in the island community, volunteering on the Board for Lopez Hospice and Davis Head. She was kind and compassionate, and loved nature, gardening, opera and cooking. She had a wonderful sense of humor and a quiet charm, which drew to her people of all ages and backgrounds. Jeanne spent much of the last year in Boise with her family, displaying grace, patience and her sweet disposition despite her illness. Her faith in the Lord comforted her throughout her life.

She was preceded in death by her parents, former husband, and sister Cherie Howry. She is survived by her daughter Melinda Marks (Brett Troyer), grandchildren Camille and Stockton Troyer, niece Jenny Gooding and her children Tessa and Jake, and many other nieces and nephews who loved her dearly. A memorial service is planned this summer on Lopez Island. The family suggests memorial contributions to Lopez Animal Protection Society or Lopez Island Hospice.

Mindy,
I would like info on the service. I have to work that day and being summer probably won't be able to attend. I was really hoping to be there. Would like to talk with you sometime when things settle down. Your mom was an amazing lady.

Mindy and family, so sad to hear about Jeanne's passing. She was the best mentor I have ever had in both work and day to day advice. I met her in the 70s as we were both Group Health pharmacists. She helped me in many ways both professionally and personally. I was privilged to spend several weekends with her at Lopez. What a great lady, so compassionate, funny and with a great love for life. I will miss her laugh and sweet smile.

Dear Mindy and family, Such a beautiful person has passed. Please know that so many of us loved her laugh, her compassion and her dry and witty humor. I remember her love of opera and her fabulous cooking. I still make her chili recipe to rave reviews. She will be missed.
