Marcia "Jean" Littler FRY 1921 ~ 2011 Jean Littler Fry passed away gently and peacefully at her daughter's home on Bainbridge Island on March 2nd. Born to A.A. 'Bob' and Lina Littler in Seattle on August 8,1921. Jean spent her formative years in North Seattle, often spending summers at Wing Point on Bainbridge Island. Her father owned "Littlers" apparel stores in Seattle and Pebble Beach, CA where the family spent many memorable times in Carmel, CA. Jean graduated from Saint Nicholas School for Girls in June, 1938. Upon graduation, she attended Pine Manor College in New England and the University of Washington where she was of member of Kappa Alpha Theta sorority majoring in English Literature, something that fed her soul. Jean met Laurence G. Fry (Laurie) at Queen Anne High School in her early teens. They married in 1942, the union remaining strong for 64 years until his death. Shortly after the birth of their youngest child, they moved the family to Port Madison on Bainbridge Island, where they had horses and participated in boating and various water sports. Jean taught Sunday school at the Port Madison Lutheran Church and enjoyed participating in Olive Kerry Guild on behalf of Children's Orthopedic Hospital. Jean and Larry were also very involved in the opening of the Pacific Science Center at the Seattle World's Fair as well as other civic and social events. Jean was a consummate artist, reading, writing creatively, and enjoying crossword puzzles, all some of her favorite pastimes. A skilled joker and clever wordsmith, Jean often elicited gales of laughter from her children, their cousins and many friends. With a keen and witty sense of humor, she effortlessly concocted high hilarity with her brilliant play on words. Always there to listen, Jean's many friends were indeed blessed by her loyalty as a devoted confidant, ever faithful in dispensing wisdom and insight. Jean's waters ran deep. She maintained friendships dating as far back as John Hay Grade School. She was a kind, gentle lady with a youthful spirit, never speaking a harsh word about anyone, truly lovely on the inside and out. Jean was preceded in death by her husband, Larry and son, Robert. She is survived by two daughters, Marcia Fletcher of Bainbridge Island and Lael and Michael Grove of Edmonds, WA and three grandchildren, Terri Jo (Fry) Bala of Kent, Jacob and Abigail Grove of Cle Elum, WA and Abi Grove of Edmonds, WA. Celebration of life and a private service will be held at a later date. Remembrances in Jean's name may be made to Children's Orthopedic Hospital or Kitsap County Hospice. She left at 5:00pm (Happy Hour) no doubt she had a date with Dad. She will always be so loved. To plant trees in memory, please visit the Sympathy Store.
