Maria Ybarra Obituary
Sister Maria de Jesus Ybarra, a Dominican Sister of Tacoma, died peacefully on May 2, 2015 at St. Joseph Residence in Seattle.
Sister Maria, a native of Edinburg, Texas, was born October 14, 1928, the daughter of Pantalion Ybarra and Cesaria de la Rosa Cortez. In 1950 the family moved to Eastern Washington. The focus of Sister Maria's lifework was Hispanic Ministry and she was known locally, nationally and internationally. For many years, she worked in the Office for Hispanic Ministry in the Diocese of Yakima.
A Vigil will be celebrated on Friday evening, May 8, 2015 at 7:00 PM at St. Joseph Residence, 4800 37th Ave. SW, Seattle, WA 98126. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Saturday, May 9, 2015 at 10:00 AM at Mt. St. Vincent Chapel, 4831 35th Ave. SW, Seattle, WA 98126. Inurnment at Calvary Cemetery. Memorial donations may be made to the Dominican Sisters Retirement Fund at 935 Fawcett Ave., Tacoma, WA 98402. Sad to find out that my cousin Sister Maria passed away. Condolences to all family and friends of hers. My mother, her tia, Francisca Ybarra Guzman loved her and welcomed sister into her home when she visited us in St. Louis, MO. I remember when she would call me and ask about all the family. Que descanse en paz. For all my parientes, I'll pray for you that God will console you in your time of need.
