Norma McEvoy Obituary

Norma Lorenz McEvoy

Born in the third decade of the twentieth century in St. Paul, MN, died of heart failure on March 26, 2015, in Bellevue WA.

Norma was born to John and Emma Lorenz. She graduated from Washington High School in St. Paul, where she was known as a great dancer and singer. Her heart was captured by Joseph McEvoy, MD and they were married November 7, 1944, at Fort Snelling, MN.

At the end of WWII, Norma joined Joe in Panama, where he was stationed with the Army Medical Corps. This experience was perhaps her greatest adventure. Norma and Joe settled in Seattle in 1954. A successful homemaker, she was active in scouting, the PTAs of Lowell Elementary and Garfield High School, and with the Group Health Staff Service League. When their son, Joe Jr., left for college, Norma became a tour director, leading groups on cruises all over the world. Her husband died in 1999, and thereafter Norma's life centered on her family and friends, especially her grandchildren and great grandchildren.

Whether known as Super Grandma or "Auntie" Norma,

she will be remembered for her

love, storytelling, and generosity.

Norma is survived by her son, Joe McEvoy (Shirley), her grandchildren Cara McEvoy and Tim McEvoy(Dina), and by her great grandchildren Zoe and Samantha McEvoy. At her request there will be no service. In lieu of flowers, remembrances may be given to The Humane Society for Seattle/King County.

So sorry to read about Auntie Norma's passing. Your memorial captured her well! I loved her stories about TugBoat Annie's and still remember with fondness when she cared for me and my younger brother while our mother (Charlotte) had surgery. You all are in my thoughts and prayers.

Best,

Charlene McEvoy
