Robert "Bob" A. Holmes

Robert Alexander Holmes, age 69, of Anacortes, WA, died Saturday, March 8, 2014 at Island Hospital in Anacortes. He was born October 10, 1944 in Detroit, Michigan, the son of Robert B. Holmes and Doris (MacDiarmid) Holmes. Upon Bob's completion of high school, he enlisted in the U.S. Navy and spent several tours of duty in Viet Nam. While his ship was in dry dock in Seattle, WA he met his future bride, Judy, and that began a love affair for the next 47 years. Bob worked 30 years in the marine industry as a Marine Electrician; the first 18 years at Lockheed Ship Building, and the last 12 with Todd's Pacific Coast Shipyard. He had a very inventive mind and loved to build all kinds of things that his family lovingly referred to as "Bob-O-Matics." Bob was one of the most creative, contented men in the world and was just genuinely happy whether sharing time with his family and friends, fishing, or holding Judy's hand. He loved everyone and everything and was never irritable or disagreeable, always ready with a smile and a helping hand. His family has been blessed beyond measure to have had him in their lives and will forever miss him and regret that we couldn't have had more time with this very special man. Bob is survived by his loving wife Judy; his sons Jeffrey (Gita), Joseph (Kathryn) and Gillian (Stephen); Four Grandchildren; Natalie, Bronwen, Alexander and Grant, as well as his sister Jean (David) Stier and Nieces Amy Howell and Suzanne Tower. Bob's family would like to extend a special "Thank You" to his Doctors, Jason Hogge and John Mathis and to the wonderful ICU Nurses at Island Hospital. We are forever indebted to you for the loving care you not only gave Bob in his final days, but our whole family. In lieu of flowers, remembrances in his name may be made to the Gentry House or to Anacortes Lutheran Church.

A private family graveside service will be held at Grand View Cemetery. A memorial service will be held at 11:00 a.m., Saturday, March 15, 2014 at the Anacortes Lutheran Church with a reception to follow. Arrangements are in the care of Evans Funeral Chapel and Crematory, Inc., Anacortes, WA and the San Juan Islands.
