Glenda Louise Smasal

1960 - 2012

Glenda Louise Smasal, 51, of rural Sedalia, died Friday, June 8, 2012, at Good Samaritan Care Center, Cole Camp. She was born on December 14, 1960, at Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, a daughter of Edward J. and Joan L. (Oschner) Oliver.

She grew up in Lee's Summit, MO, and was baptized at the Methodist Church. In 1975, she moved to Cole Camp and graduated from Cole Camp High School in 1979. On November 30, 1984, in Independence, she was united in marriage to Anthony W. Smasal.

In June of 1985, she moved back to Lee's Summit and was employed for four years at White Care Center in Lee's Summit. In 1997, she moved back to Cole Camp with her family and had worked for four years as a CNA at Good Samaritan Care Center in Cole Camp, for seven years as a cook at the Cole Camp Senior Center, and for two years at Wal-Mart in Sedalia. In May of 2001, the family moved to their farm of rural Sedalia. Glenda enjoyed Sunday worship with the girls, spending time with her grandchildren, fishing for catfish, and playing bingo.
 
She is survived by her husband, Anthony W. Smasal of the home; two sons, Jimmy L. Smasal and his wife Emily of Sedalia and Zachary E. Smasal of Sedalia; one sister, Rhonda Roper of Washington Square, OH; two brothers, David Oliver and his wife Pat of Falcon, CO, and Gene Oliver and his wife Rose of Phoenix, AZ; and two grandchildren, Hunter L. Smasal and Hayden D. Smasal.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Edward and Joan Oliver.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Tuesday, June 12, 2012, at Sts. Peter & Paul Catholic Cemetery, Cole Camp, with  Father Keith Branson officiating. Burial will be in St. Patrick's Catholic Cemetery, Springfork.

The family will receive friends from 6:00 – 7:30 p.m. on Monday, June 11, 2012, at the church, with the rosary to begin at 7:30 p.m.

The family suggests memorial contributions be given to St. Patrick's Catholic Cemetery or Sts. Peter & Paul Catholic Church in care of the Fox Funeral Home, Cole Camp.

Pallbearers will be Jimmy Smasal, Zachary Smasal, Matt Wright, Josh Staus, Andrew Smasal, and Kyle Palecek.
