Leonard Norman Yankee
SEDALIA — Leonard Norman Yankee, 95, of Sedalia, passed away Friday, January 16, 2015, at Rest Haven Convalescent and Retirement Home.
He was born December 15, 1919, in Sedalia, son of James F. and Lenora Funk Yankee. On March 12, 1941, in Sedalia, he married Eulalia Dillon, who preceded him in death on July 5, 2007.
Mr. Yankee was a member of Epworth United Methodist Church. He worked as a carpenter, farmer and maintenance man. He enjoyed reading, watching Westerns, playing cards, going to country music shows, telling stories, and spending time with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Surviving are two daughters, Dorothy Swope, and her husband, John, of Hughesville, and Shirley Hayworth, and her husband, Charles "Bill", of Sedalia; six grandchildren; 23 great-grandchildren; and 33 great-great-grandchildren.
In addition to his wife and parents, he was also preceded in death by a great-great-grandson; two brothers, Forrest Yankee and Lloyd Yankee; and a sister, Marjorie Rice.
Funeral services will be at 2:00 p.m. Wednesday, January 21, at Heckart Funeral Home, with the Rev. Donnie Hayworth officiating.
Casket bearers will be great-grandchildren, Branden Thierfelder, Kevin Thierfelder, Clayton Thierfelder, Charles Lide, Andrew Lide, Kassie Lide, Bonnie Debates and Emily Hayworth.
Honorary bearers will be great-great-grandchildren, Zoey Thierfelder, Macy Thierfelder, Kayla Lide, Jonah Debates, Roderick Lide, William Lide, Abigail Bunch and Ella Christopher.
Burial will be in La Monte Cemetery.
The family will receive friends from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Tuesday, January 20, at Heckart Funeral Home.
Memorial contributions are suggested to Crossroads Hospice.

I only knew Mr Yankee a short time but I knew right away he was a great man. He always spoke highly of his family. He always had a smile on his face. I sure am gonna miss this man. My deepest condolences to his family. I want you all to know ur Dad while always hold a special place in my heart.
