I am so sad to hear that Chris has moved on. His wonderful laugh punctuated discussions of plantings, water features, steel, and concrete. I could always trust my friends, family, and clients would be amazed and pleased with Chris´s designs.
I will miss him.

Chris helped initiate my path into landscape architecture by giving me my first job as a gardeners apprentice at the beautiful estate in the foothills of Monte Serino. I was studying architecture at the time and learned about the career and art of landscape architecture through Chris. It was the most enjoyable initiation into this field that anyone could ever ask for. I never looked back after those memorable years gardening alone and with Chris in such an idyllic setting. Beyond his masterful knowledge of plants and horticulture, Chris was kind, thoughtful, respectful, generous and had a positivity and humor that carried the day in a lighthearted yet deeply passionate way. Chris dreamed gardens and was generous in his ability to share this dream with all those lucky enough to walk with him. Now almost there decades into my career as a landscape architect, I´m deeply grateful for the knowledge, sensibility, humor, kindness and tutorage that Chris shared with me. As fortune would have it, Chris generously opened his practice (GardenArt Group) to me in the late 90´s / early 2000´s and we completed designs and landscapes for many amazing clients and properties, most notably including the Sunset Idea House in Palo Alto, Calera Winery in Hollister and the SF Designer Showcase in Sea Cliff, San Francisco. I am beyond words with gratitude for the support and gentle guidance that Chris gave me so early in my path. I am filled with compassion and sympathy for all those close to Chris who have lost this true garden legend and superstar of a human being. My deepest condolences to his friends, family and wide community of colleagues.

Chris was my dear friend for 65 years -through highs and lows, thick or thin, we always stayed in touch. I could always count on Chris to be there if I needed advice or a shoulder to lean on. Chris was one of the most interesting people I have ever met; a delightful combination of qualities as he was witty, charming, artistic and creative. He was endearing, compassionate, caring and generous on many levels in so many ways. I loved Chris and am so lucky he was in my life.
My sympathy and love to Chris's family and other friends.
