Fannie Chong Obituary

Fannie Louie Chong

Fannie Louie Chong, 86, died peacefully in her sleep on the morning of December 1, 2016.
Her parents emigrated from China and Fannie was born on October 31, 1930, in San Francisco, California. Fannie graduated Galileo High School and worked for Bank of America in Chinatown. She married Antonio T. Chong in 1954 and traveled extensively, living in many places including Illinois, Hong Kong, Taipei, New York, Connecticut; she moved back to San Francisco in 1998.
Fannie's generous nature meant she always volunteered her time and energy to the community she lived in and graciously opened her home to new visitors and friends.
She loved her family, friends, good food, durian, socializing and all things San Francisco. Her passions included Chinese landscape painting, Chinese calligraphy, and country and classical music. She did not like driving, injection needles and vegetables. She enjoyed large family vacations to Italy, Ireland, Alaska, Nova Scotia, and New Orleans.
She is survived by her brother, Wiley Chan, her children, Curtis, Richard and Teresa, her grandchildren Francesco, Alyssa, Stephanie, Alina, David & Sam, goddaughter Janice Fong, goddaughter Jackie Kwauk, godson Eric Wu, and many other family relatives. She always had a wonderful smile and laugh that brought great joy to the entire family and all friends who knew her.
The family would like to thank the wonderful staff at the San Francisco Towers.
In lieu of flowers, charitable donations in memory of Fannie may be made to the Chinatown YMCA with an inside note "In memory of Fannie L. Chong" and mailed to Chinatown YMCA; 855 Sacramento St; San Francisco CA 94108 and the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation Los Angeles Chapter, http://www.jdrf.org .
The memorial service will be a private small family service per her request.

Dear, dear Auntie Fannie, we miss you! Sorry it's taken so long to write in your guest book. It's been just over a year since you left us, and I still think of you every time I walk by the Towers. I peek in the window, hoping to see you sitting there, waiting for me to bring you some of my mom's cooking or some fried chicken. I miss hearing your voice on the phone, calling us for a lunch date or to meet my mom for coffee and a donut. We lost a kind, gracious and generous soul when you left. Condolences to her family and all who knew her. Auntie Fannie, rest in peace.
