James Tracey Obituary

James Michael Tracey

James Michael Tracey, 72, of Sebastopol, CA, passed away peacefully, surrounded by family and close friends at his home after a battle with Multiple Myeloma on November 11, 2021.

Jim was born in San Francisco to Donald and Lois (O'Leary) Tracey. He was a third-generation San Franciscan. Jim attended St. Gabriel Grammar School, St. Ignatius High School, and City College of San Francisco. He played 3 years of Varsity Football at S.I. and was a starter on the 1967 AAA Championship Turkey Day winning team.

Jim served in the United States Army Reserves. He was a dedicated Firefighter for 30 years with the San Francisco Fire Department where he retired as Assistant Chief in 2002. Jim's passion to become a Firefighter was inspired by his father.

Jim's fondest memories were spent at Twin Creeks (Almaden), Lambertville, and Berryessa where he learned to enjoy hunting and fishing with family and longtime friends.

Jim, a very devoted family man, is survived by his loving wife of 40 years, Ninette; his daughters, Shannon Tracey and Lisa Tryon; his beloved grandson, Daniel. He also leaves behind his siblings, Dave (Gloria), Leslie DeMay (George), and Dan (Nancy, deceased); as well as nieces, Lauren Saadia (Josh & Jack) and Meghan Tracey.

No funeral services have been announced. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to Providence Santa Rosa Memorial Hospice for their dedication and compassion.

SI Class of '67- Good guy, tough football player
SFFD- Good Fireman, great Boss. Promoting to Asst. Chief in difficult times you had to be smart and disciplined. Jim was both and always humble.

I knew Jim since high school and worked with Jim in the SFFD. Jim was a good man and a good firefighter. He was very level-headed and a pleasure to have known over the years. He was well respected by all that knew him, whether it was on the football team or the fire department. May he Rest In Peace. We will miss you, Jim.

I first met Jim at SI and was always impressed with his football prowess, but more importantly his friendliness and charismatic smile. Later, we met in the firehouse and worked together with his brother Dave. Always a class act, just like his brothers, Dave and Dan. Jim will be missed but never forgotten. RIP, Jimmy.
