Kay Maynard Obituary

Kathryn Dyer Maynard

March 11, 1924 - June 14, 2017

Kay Maynard, intellect, artist, musician, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, and friend, died in Sonoma on June 14 at the age of 93.

Kay was born on March 11, 1924 in Berkeley, CA to Frances DeKay (Morris) Dyer and Kenneth Harold Dyer. Her family has a long and rich California history and Kay was always very proud of her ancestry.

Raised in Berkeley, she attended John Muir Elementary, Willard Junior High, and Berkeley High School. Kay graduated with a degree in Fine Arts from her beloved UC Berkeley in 1947, where she was a member of the Gamma Phi Beta sorority.

With her husband Earle, Kay and her family moved to Sonoma in 1968. Earle and Kay were active in the World Affairs Council, often hosting dignitaries from around the world. In 1970, Kay and Earle co-founded the Sonoma Valley Tennis Association. As a two-term president of the Metropolitan Club of San Francisco, Kay saw the club through changing and progressive times. Active in Kiwanis of Sonoma Plaza, where she also served as president, and a charter member of Sonoma Valley Museum of Art, Kay always had an eye toward helping others and making Sonoma a better place.

Kay was preceded in death by her husband, Earle V. Maynard. Kay is survived by daughters Susan Basham, Margie Maynard and Barbara Maynard, grandchildren Bradley, Lauren and Anya, and great granddaughter Adeline.

A private inurnment will be held at The Chapel of the Chimes in Oakland.
