Virginia P. Baker, 96, of Flat Rock, passed away Monday, October 23, 2023 at her residence.
Virginia Prudence (Ferleman) Baker was born to Edward and Nellie Ferleman on December 13th, 1926. She was one of ten children, grew up in Trinity United Methodist Church, and lived on Main Street in Walkerville. Virginia married Loren "Bill" Baker, on August 27th, 1949 in Franklin, Indiana and Bill died on July 28th, 1974. Virginia was a factory worker, retiring from TRW Cinch Manufacturing Company. From the time of retirement until well into her 80's, Virginia cared for many grandchildren and great-grandchildren, serving as their first teachers, attending every school program and sporting event, and loving them the "mostest". Her family was her joy, and she was fiercely protective of each member, from her daughters to the most distant cousin. And if you didn't want her opinion, you better not ask for it.
Mrs. Baker was predeceased by her husband, parents, and nine siblings, five of which died during infancy. Virginia had four sisters who survived infancy, and passed before her: Alice Henry, Thelma Payne, Willetta Henry, and Mary Stroh. She is survived by three daughters, Deborah Baker of Flat Rock, Jennie (Stanley) Reynolds of Shelbyville, and Sandra (David) New of Madeira Beach, Florida; five grandchildren Amanda Plummer of Shelbyville, Loren "Bryce" (Lindsey) New of Greenwood, Jennifer (Steve) Richeson of Florida, Suzanne (Chad) Lovitt of Greensburg and Mandy (John) Haehl of Fishers; great-grandchildren Taylor (Jacob) Smith, Hayden (Labreah) Plummer, Mason (Sunny) Plummer, Brandon and Austin Lovitt, Keegan and Konnor Haehl, Dustin and Jenna Richeson, and Beckham New; and great-great-grandchildren Jaxton, Asher, and Armani Plummer.
