Daniel Dubroff Obituary

DANIEL DAVID DUBROFF, born in New York City on July 31, 1912, to Russian immigrant Isidore and Esther Dubroff, passed away on February 5, 2002, at the age of 89 from leukemia. He was of the Jewish faith and a 32nd degree Mason, a member of Dixie Lodge #109 in Blountstown, Florida for almost 30 years. Dad earned a degree in chemistry from New York University during the Great Depression and, not having funds to continue into medical school and not able to find a job as a chemist, went to work at his family's business selling meats to New York City restaurants while moonlighting as a professional photographer. Rather than raising his two sons in the City, he moved his family to the Florida Panhandle in 1947 and became a farmer, rancher, and school teacher. He founded the Calhoun-Liberty County Employee's Credit Union in the late 1950's, which today is a 40 million dollar institution. After retiring, he dabbled in real estate and owned motels in Panama City Beach. In 1997, he moved to Spring, Texas to be close to his beloved family. We will miss him, his humor, and his wonderful stories. Dad continued teaching to the very end, but rather than using school books, he taught us about life and how to live. He was predeceased by his parents, three brothers and sister as well as his son Lloyd and granddaughter Jessica. He leaves behind his loving wife Eula Frances son Duncan Dubroff and wife Nancy, step-children Debbie Pape and husband Glenn, Joe Orlando and wife Hope, Larry Orlando and wife Angela, Tom Orlando, Connie Dubroff, and Carol Price as well as numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews and countless friends. Dad was adamant about not having flowers at his funeral. In lieu of flowers, his wish was that any remembrance be to the charity of your choice or The Hospice at the Texas Medical Center, 1905 Holcombe Blvd., Houston, Texas 77030. Graveside services will be held at the 10:00 AM, Friday, February 8, at Rosewood Cemetery at 2603 Old Humble Road in Humble, Texas 77396 with Rabbi James Moss Brandt of Congregation Beth Shalom of the Woodlands officiating.

I remember the first time I met Grandpa. He have me a great big hug and said what a beautiful granddaughter I was. From that day on he was always my Grandpa, but I shared him with Dave. I will miss him very much!

I love you, your wisdom and the magnanimous way you chose to share it. It has been an honor to know you, love you and to be blessed as one of your daughter-in-laws. You have blessed your grandchildren with many years of experience, knowledge, great humor, stories and most of all you. You have made us fortunate all the way around. Love Lis

The memories are too numerous to pick one, most of all what I remember about my Grandpa is what a great man he was. How people couldn't help but love him, he alwayas had time for you, he always had a kind word and a story from his life that illustrated his point. If I could be 1/2 the man he was my life will have been well spent.

Grandpa was absolutely the best. His love and beauty are still so alive in me and my heart, that it is difficult for me to refer to him in the past tense. He could always be counted on to tell a story, laughing as he told it, stop and get his grandkids an icee or other treat, and mostly, show up and be there with his loving presence when you needed him. In many ways, he is one of the most gracious people I have ever known, I never heard him utter a bad word about anyone. He also brought me my grandmother, with whom he had such a loving relationship, and for that I am truly grateful. My children and I will miss him, but there is some beautiful grandpa quality that I can feel living on through all of us.
