Charles Norris Obituary

Charles R. Norris

PEARL, MS - Charles R. Norris, 69, was born December 26, 1939 in Phillips County Arkansas to the late H.P. Norris and Susie Littleton Norris. Charles died Tuesday, September 29, 2009. Visitation (beginning at 12 p.m. Friday, October 2) will be followed by funeral services at 1 p.m. at Baldwin-Lee Funeral Home in Pearl. A graveside service will be held 3:30 p.m. at Goodwater Cemetery in Magee.

An agricultural chemist, Charles served at Barrow-Agee and Peabody Laboratories before becoming Vice President and co-owner of Mid-Continent Laboratories from which he retired in 2008. A member of the Old Guard of the American Oil Chemists Society (AOCS), Charles received numerous awards from the AOCS for cotton seed analysis. During his brief retirement, Charles continued his twenty-five year service as a Senior Tax Advisor for H&R Block. A life-long member of the Loyal Order of the Moose, Charles earned the distinguished rank of Pilgrim Degree of Merit and held all leadership offices in the Louisiana Moose Association including State Secretary, a position he held for 35 years.

Charles is survived by his devoted wife of 47 years Wynn Lowry Norris; two daughters, Donna Norris and Stacey Norris Hight (Terry); an adopted daughter, Barbara (DS) Poole; a sister and brother-in-law, Estelle "Sissie" and Jack Ward; three grandchildren, Brennan Joy Hight, Charles "Charlie" Donovan Hight, and Robert "Robbie" Norris Hight; and, many nephews and nieces.

Because of his life devotion to science and his continuing admonition that his progeny pursue quality education, the family asks that, in lieu of flowers, any donations go to The Science Lab Project of First Presbyterian Day School (1390 N. State Street, Jackson, MS 39202) or Moose Charities (Mooseheart, IL).

Wynn and family,
Words cannot express the sense of loss and shock that Charles' family at H&R Block is feeling. We all loved Charles for his quick wit, his tell it like it is personality, and his huge heart. My boys still refer to him as "Chuck Norris" and can't believe he is gone. We will all miss him very much but will carry him in our hearts. Our thoughts, prayers, and love go to you and the family.
Love Adela, Tim, Derrick & Michael Walsleben and the entire H&R Block family of associates

Dear Mrs. Norris,
I was shocked when Mom told me about Mr. Norris’ death. You, Stacy, Donna and Barbara have my deepest sympathy.
I will always remember what a wonderful sense of humor Mr. Norris’ had and what fun you both were that year when Dana and I went to Destin, FL with Mom and Dad to the Cotton convention!
