Joseph Freytag Obituary
MINSTER – Joseph R. Freytag, age 53, of Minster, Ohio, died at 10 p.m. on Tuesday, April 14, 2015, at Wilson Memorial Hospital, Sidney, Ohio, following a sudden illness.
He was born on April 25, 1961, in St. Marys, Ohio, to the late Albert F. and Marjorie (DeLaet) Freytag. His mother survives in Minster. He married Lisa M. Puthoff on Sept. 1, 1984, in Minster, Ohio, and she survives in Minster.
He is also survived by children, Stephanie A. and Justin Johansing, Cincinnati, Ohio, Joseph W. Freytag and Rachel Grady, Cincinnati, Emily R. Freytag and Ben Opperman, Cincinnati, and John E. Freytag, Cincinnati; two grandchildren, Evelyn and Margaret Johansing; brothers and sisters, Marge and Wayne Jones, Loveland, Dr. Thomas and Gwynne Freytag, Wapakoneta, and William and Joyce Freytag, Botkins; mother-in-law, Roseann Puthoff, Minster; in-laws, Michael Nelson, Jamestown, Ohio, Dennis and Ann Nelson, New Bremen, Tom and Deb Nelson, New Bremen, Linda and Dan Schmiesing, Fort Loramie, Deb and Bill Bornhorst, Egypt, and Patty Nelson, New Bremen; and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his father and brother, Albert Freytag Jr., father-in-law, Leander Puthoff, and brother-in-law, Steve Nelson.
He was a member of St. Augustine Catholic Church, Minster, Minster Civic Association and past president, founding member of the Minster Community Fund, Minster Booster Club, Minster Little League Board and coach, girls softball coach, and a member of ABC (Associated Builders and Contractors). He was co-owner of Albert Freytag Inc.
Joe enjoyed being with his family & friends, boating, fishing, traveling and attending Xavier basketball games.
Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10 Monday, April 20, 2015, at St. Augustine Catholic Church, Minster, with the Rev. Rick Nieberding celebrant. Burial will take place in St. Augustine Cemetery.
Friends may call at the Hogenkamp Funeral Home, Minster from 1 to 7 p.m. on Sunday, April 19, 2015, and from 9 to 9:30 a.m. on Monday, April 20, 2015.
In lieu of flowers contributions may be made to the American Heart Association and Minster Community Fund.
