Albert E. Zimmerman, Jr. 1926 - 2018
Springfield, IL—Albert E. Zimmerman, Jr., 92, of Springfield, died at 9:16 p.m. on Thursday, May 17, 2018 at his home.
Albert was born March 3, 1926 in Springfield, the son of Albert E. and Elizabeth M. Roth Zimmerman. He married Amelia R. Fleckenstein on May 1, 1954 in Decatur.
Albert graduated from Springfield High School in 1944 and served his country in the U.S. Air Force. He was employed for 40 years in the building industry and then worked for Bunn until his retirement. He was a member of Church of the Little Flower, where he was an usher for 50 years, and Eucharistic Minister. Albert was also a member of Little Flower Men's Club, Past Grand Knight of the Knights of Columbus #364, and Fourth Degree Knights of Columbus Bishop Griffin Assembly #0201.
He was preceded in death by his parents; two sons, Michael and Steven Zimmerman; sister, Mary Melton; and brothers, Raymond "Ray" and John "Jack" Zimmerman.
Albert is survived by his wife, Amelia R. "Millie" Zimmerman; sons, James "Jim" (wife, Rhonda) Zimmerman of Springfield and Kevin (wife, Sandy) Zimmerman of Divernon; grandchildren, Michael (wife, Kerry) Zimmerman, Christopher (fiancée, Emily Nance) Zimmerman, Desiree (husband, Joe) Sayne, Steven (wife, Kyla) Zimmerman, and Rhianne Zimmerman; seven great-grandchildren; brothers, Thomas "Tom" (wife, Sue) Zimmerman of Burlington, IA and Rev. David Zimmerman of Springfield; and several nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Visitation: Family will receive friends from 9:30 until 10:45 a.m. on Wednesday, May 23, 2018 at Church of the Little Flower, 800 Stevenson Dr., Springfield. The Fourth Degree Knights of Columbus Bishop Griffin Assembly #0201 will provide a honor guard during the visitation.
Funeral Mass: 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, May 23, 2018 at Church of the Little Flower with Rev. Allen Kemme, celebrant.
Burial will follow at Calvary Cemetery with military honors provided by the Interveterans Burial Detail of Sangamon County.
Memorial contributions may be made to: Church of the Little Flower, 800 Stevenson Dr., Springfield, IL 62703 or American Cancer Society, 675 E. Linton Ave., Springfield, IL 62703.

Dear Millie and family, I am sorry to hear of your loss. Al was your real dear partner in life. I met Bob's group at Chi Rho - shyest critters alive. As I was always a counselor - get 'em confident and they all made great lives. - I should have followed my own advice in mine. Best to you sweet gal.
