SPRINGFIELD, IL - Thomas Joseph Hamilton, 83, died Wednesday, July 1, 2015, surrounded by his wife, children and grandchildren.
He is survived by his wife, Rosemarie (Bunny Fitzgerald) Hamilton; daughter, Janis Marie Kelso (husband, Thomas) from Springfield; son, Thomas Edward (wife, Alene) from Springfield; daughter, Sharon Anne Di Santo (husband, Mitchell) from Georgetown, Texas; daughter, Joyce Hamilton Gates (husband, Bruce) from Alexandria, Va.; son, Robert William Hamilton (wife, Sandra) from Springfield; grandchildren: Elizabeth Marie Hamilton, Nicholas Joseph Kelso, Charles Thomas Hamilton, Will Henry Hamilton, and Jake Robert Hamilton, all of Springfield, Barton Stuart Gates, Tyler Harrison Gates, and Judson Taylor Gates, all of Alexandria, Va., and Rachel Di Santo of Georgetown, Texas; sisters, Elenore Mack and Patricia Ramshaw; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his sister, Mary Ann Gaffigan.
Thomas was born Oct. 5, 1931, in Springfield to Thomas and Alice (McCarthy) Hamilton. He graduated from Cathedral High School in 1949, and from the University of Notre Dame in 1953. He served honorably in the U.S. Army and was stationed in Germany from 1953-1955. In 1957, on the 14th of September, he married Bunny Fitzgerald at St. Agnes Church. He then began a longstanding career in the local real estate community, and soon owned and managed Tom Hamilton Real Estate, building it into a successful real estate business that flourished for many years until his retirement in 2005.
He was active in several organizations including the Capitol Area Association of Realtors, SERTOMA, Notre Dame Alumni Association, Holy Name Society, and the Society of St. Vincent de Paul, as well as Christ the King parish.
He will be remembered as a devoted husband, loving father, and doting grandfather.
Cremation was accorded by Butler Cremation Tribute Center.
Memorial Gathering and Funeral Mass: Family will receive friends from 9:30 a.m. until the Funeral Mass at 11:30 a.m. on Wednesday, July 8, 2015, at Christ the King Church, 1930 Barberry Dr., Springfield, with the Rev. Msgr. David S. Lantz, celebrant.
Interment will follow at Camp Butler National Cemetery in Springfield with military honors provided by the Inter-Veterans Burial Detail of Sangamon County.
The family has requested that memorial contributions be made to: Christ the King Church, 1930 Barberry Dr., Springfield, IL 62704.

Tom was my realtor for my first home purchase years ago and I will always remember him for his big smile and generous spirit. My thoughts and prayers are with the family in such a tremendous loss. Tom touched so many lives in such a positive way. God bless you, Bunny.
