DON BREWER Obituary

Don Thomas Brewer passed away of natural causes at his home in Mount Vernon, WA on September 16, 2014, with his wife Susan by his side.

Don was born on June 10, 1947 in Little Rock, Arkansas to Ora and Jaynell Brewer. The first born of five, big brother to lead the way his sisters and little brother.

After living most of his childhood in Terrell, Texas, he joined the United States Army where he served in Germany and courageously doing two terms in Southeast Asia. Don was medically retired from the Army as a decorated Sergeant, a disabled veteran and a true hero to his friends and family.

He met and married Susan Laurie Lam of Mount Vernon in 1973. To this union were born sons, Jay Thomas Brewer and Corey James Brewer.

He was employed for seventeen years at Skagit Valley Hospital, where he served as an EMT and a Certified Central Services Technician.
Don had numerous talents and interests including music, woodworking, jewelry making and marksmanship.

He was preceded in death by his parents, and his father and mother-in-law John and Velma Lam.

Don's greatest love was his family and he demonstrated this love in many ways throughout his life. Those left to cherish his memory are his wife, Susan; son, Jay and grandson Jaia of Sedro-Woolley, and son Corey and his wife Jillian Murphy of Seattle.

He is also survived by his four siblings in Texas; including sisters, Carolyn (Paul) Bailey, Vickie (Ken) Titterington, Ritha (Weldon) Almond and brother Ricky (Carol) Brewer; brothers-in-law, James (Mary) Lam and John (Barbara) Lam, all of Mount Vernon. Don was loved and will be missed by his nieces and nephews both in Texas and Washington whom he had a close and special connection with each one.

Don was so much more than can be written on a page. He was the world to us and he never said goodbye without saying, "I Love You".
A family memorial is planned in Texas in the spring, when the bluebonnets cover the hills of East Texas.

The family extends a special thanks to the Medic One Firefighters for their quick response and excellent care.

Arrangements are under the care of Kern Funeral Home of Mount Vernon.

I met Don while stationed at Fort Wolters (Primary Helicopter) in Mineral Wells Texas in 1971. I loved the guy right away, and so did my girlfriend Sue. He moved in with us, they fell in love, and departed to Washington state when Don was done with the Army. I got to stay in til 73. We maintained contact every now and then, not as much as I'd have liked to but life and a family to raise is busy, right? Two finer people who were more meant to be together will not be found on this planet soon...Dean, MA, CRC, LMHCA, MHP...I will always love both of you.

Don was a good friend all through school. As I went in the Navy & he the Army, I lost contact until last month finding him on face book.
May God bless you in this time & for ever more.

As one of his sisters, I can say that the world was better off with him in it. We miss him dearly and grieve particularly for Susan, Jay, Corey and Jaia. God is so good to move us forward with special memories and eventually making peace with this loss.

What a great friend Don was for over thirty years! So many good memories-camping in your front yard for seven weeks, Friday night dinners with the rest of you watching movies while I slept on the couch, Big Lake, Don and the men hunting while we women had girl time sleepovers, raising our kids together, Don's fortieth birthday party and thinking "We have friends that are forty!", the Britt house, and so many more. Don will be forever in our hearts.
