JOHN BOWRON Obituary

July 19, 1929 - September 10, 2015

Jack Bowron passed away September 10th, 2015 at his home in Arizona after an extended illness.

Jack was born July 19, 1929 in Mount Vernon to Maurice and Myrtle Bowron.

He graduated from Mount Vernon High School in 1947. He attended Pacific Lutheran College on basketball scholarship, graduating in 1951 with a B.A. in Education.

An accomplished trumpet player, Jack attended the Naval School of Music in Washington, D.C. before serving as a Navy bandsman on the U.S.S. Oriskany during the Korean War. In 1956 he began his career as an instrumental music teacher in the Seattle School District. A kind and caring educator, he was beloved by his students. He also played trumpet professionally in the Bob Elwood Quartet of Seattle for ten years.

Jack married Eldfrid Viken in June, 1957. They made several trips to Norway to visit relatives over the years.

After retiring in 1981 he remained active hiking and bicycle riding. In 2005 he moved to Arizona.

Jack is survived by his wife Eldfrid, one son Mark of Laughlin, Nevada, one daughter Linda (Gary Strutz) of West Sacramento, California, brother Bill (Anna) Bowron of Mount Vernon, sister Marilyn Raefield of Edmonds and several nieces and nephews.

Arrangements are pending in Arizona.

So sorry to hear about Mr. Bowron's passing. He was my favorite teacher at James Monroe. I have many fond memories of playing "Jeopardy" in his US History class!
