JOSEPH PESATURO Obituary

Joseph (Joe) Pesaturo, 73, of Anacortes, passed away peacefully at his home after a long illness on October, 31, 2014.

The eldest of two boys, Joe was born in Boston, Massachusetts on April 10, 1941 to Joseph Carmen Pesaturo and Helen Winship Murphy Pesaturo. He graduated from Brighton High School in 1959. Joe was Captain of his football and ice hockey teams.

After high school he went on to spend four years in the Air Force. Joe met his wife Judy of 52 years at Lakewood ice skating rink while stationed at McChord AFB. They raised their three children in Hudson, MA.

Joe worked as a marine diesel mechanic for Caterpillar for twenty years. His job took him to the Gulf coast installing new CAT engines in crab processors. Retiring from CAT, Joe then worked for CMS, a land developer, in Marlboro, MA, for ten years. He loved his family and was so very proud of them.

The family enjoyed summers at Hampton Beach, New Hampshire and ski vacations in Vermont and New Hampshire. Joe coached his son's ice hockey team. His passion became sailing and summer weekends were reserved to set sail with an open invitation to whoever would like to go for a sail around Boston Harbor. Each August he and Judy would sail their boat along the Maine and Nova Scotia coasts with friends. Joe was a wonderful story teller and amused all with his endless tales.

In 1996 Joe retired from CMS, he and Judy sold their home in Hudson and settled onto their boat. They spent three and a half years sailing from Boston to Anacortes settling in Anacortes in 2000. Joe worked at Anacortes Yacht Charters until 2006 when he officially retired, giving him time to enjoy his grandchildren.

Joe is survived by his wife Judy; brother Jack (Jane) Pesaturo of Sandwich, MA and Hilton Head, SC, son Joseph Pesaturo of Boston, MA; daughter Lisa (Eric) Kokernak of Lewiston, ID; son Greg (Joy) Pesaturo of Anacortes, WA; five grandchildren, William & Laura Kokernak, Forrest, Joseph and Jaime Pesaturo, several nieces and nephews, many dear cousins and friends.
Donations in Joe's name may be made to St. Vincent DePaul Food Bank, C/O St. Mary Catholic Church, 4001 St. Mary's Drive, Anacortes, WA 98221.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 a.m., Friday, November 7, 2014 at St. Mary Catholic Church with burial to follow at Grand View Cemetery. A reception will follow the graveside at the Fr. Auer Center.

Arrangements are in the care of Evans Funeral Chapel and Crematory, Inc., Anacortes, WA and the San Juan Islands.
