KATHERINE HAWLEY Obituary

Katherine Hawley lost her fierce battle with old age on April 7, 2018. She was 93 1/2.

Katherine grew up in Tacoma, WA. Before moving to Anacortes in 2002 she lived in Seattle, Edmonds, Connecticut and on Orcas Island.

Katherine never ceased to amaze her family and friends, even in her later years. She was a drum majorette for the Tacoma Stadium High School Band, an artist, an excellent cook and seamstress, fearless, a wonderful steward of the earth, an avid gardener and animal lover and a true-blue friend.

Returning to the work force in her forties, Katherine combined her love of helping others with her knowledge of health and nutrition. She worked at health food stores, became a Metabolic Technician and owned a vitamin business into her eighties. Her generous heart compelled her to sell most of her vitamins at cost.

Katherine was a woman of strong faith. Her passionate personality combined with her love of Jehovah God and her neighbor meant that she was never shy about gently sharing God's purpose for the earth and mankind with anyone she met. She had a clever imagination and loved telling Sven and Ole jokes to her medical providers.

We will never forget her sparkling blue eyes and the wonderful lessons she taught us: the art of generous hospitality, that life is about helping one another, to be conscientious and friendships are forever.

Katherine is survived by her two daughters: Sue (Rick) Sigmen and Terri (Peter) Kobzan; grandsons: Roger (Angela) Sigmen and Eric (Renae) Sigmen; and great granddaughter, Mikiah.

Katherine was preceded in death by her husband of 17 years, Dwight S (Bud) Hawley Jr and her grandson Shane (Jake) Sigmen.

Our heartfelt thanks and deep gratitude to mom's Hospice Team and the loving caregivers and staff of Where the Heart Is. Many thanks to our family and friends, who encouraged and cared for us while we cared for our amazing mom.

A Memorial Service for Katherine will be held April 28th at 2:00 p.m. at the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah's Witnesses 2511 29th Anacortes, WA.

Katherine's family invite friends and family to share their memories and stories of Katherine at the reception to follow at the Anacortes Senior Center.
