Larry John Stevenson

1948 - 2017

Larry John Stevenson, age 68, of Sault Ste. Marie MI died peacefully surrounded by family at the Hospice of the EUP – Hospice House on August 12, 2017 after a hard fought battle with cancer. Larry was born in Sault Ste. Marie, Michigan on September 13, 1948. He was the son of Raymond and Marion Stevenson.
Larry graduated from Soo Area High School in 1967. He enlisted in the US Army where he served 5 years. He was stationed in Germany for 3 of the five years with the 8th infantry division. Larry was honorably discharged in 1973. He entered federal service after leaving the Army at Kincheloe Air Force Base. He worked in the food service department until the base closed in 1977. He then transferred to K. I. Sawyer Air Force Base in Gwinn, MI and continued working in the food service department until the base closed in 1994. He then transferred to Fort McCoy in Sparta, WI where he continued his federal service until retiring in 2008.
He married Beverly (McGuire) Marble in 2005 in Sparta, WI. Larry and Bev lived in Sparta until returning to the Soo in 2010, where they currently resided.
Larry is survived by his wife Beverly, brother Ron (Janet) Stevenson of Port Orchard, WA, sister Marilyn (Larry) Keto of Skandia, MI, stepchildren Tammy (Gary) Switzer of Sugar Island, MI, Ron (Tiffany) Marble of Rochester Hills, MI and Wendy (Mike) Baarlaer of Alpena, MI. He also leaves behind his grandchildren Colton Marble, Nicole Ketola, and Megan and Mikayla Baarlaer.
Larry was preceded in death by his mother and father, Marion and Raymond Stevenson and his sister Cindy Alford.
Larry enjoyed the outdoors, particularly, bicycling and long walks. He loved going to the Soo Locks to watch the ore boats and setting the tourists straight on how the locks operated. He got great enjoyment whenever his grandson Colton came to visit.
A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. on Thursday, August 17, 2017 at Fundamental Baptist Church in Kinross, Michigan. Friends may gather at the church from 10 a.m. until the time of the service.
