Cleo Ivory Obituary

Oct. 25, 1924 - Nov. 8, 2009
SOUTH BEND - Minister Cleo Ivory, 85, was born October 25, 1924, in Casey, Kentucky, to the union of Ed and M. Bell Ivory. Later, he moved to Mississippi and served in the United States Army with an honorable discharge. Then later moved to South Bend, Indiana, where he united in Holy Matrimony with Rose Ware on May 5, 1956. Minister Ivory loved quartet singing; in his lifetime he organized several groups. He was employed by A.M. General Corporation, Mishawaka, IN, until he retired. In June 1978, he was ordained in the ministry. Leaving to cherish his memory are his devoted wife of 53 years, Rose Ivory; two children, Cheryl (Terry) Carr of Kalamazoo, MI, and Patsy (Tyrone) Hill of Los Angeles, CA; grandsons, Braylin Powell, Shaquille and Ryan Ivory, all of Chicago, IL; granddaughters, Tekeilla, Sharmaine and Nicole Carr, all of Kalamazoo, MI, and Robin Evans and Tyroneia Hill of Los Angeles, CA; great-grandson, Davon Evans of Los Angeles, CA; and a host of stepchildren in South Bend, IN, Kalamazoo, MI, and Los Angeles, CA. Others left to cherish his memory are a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and special children, Deacon Donnie and Elder Janice Johnson, Timothy and Deveda Farrell, Elder Tracy Jones, Minister Connie Witherspoon, and Brenda Walker. His son, Dwight "Dike" Ivory, preceded him in death. Daddy Ivory was a "father figure" to many throughout this community. Whenever you saw him out and about, he would always have a cap on his head. "Today, He Wears His Crown." Services for Minister Ivory will be Saturday, Nov. 14th, in the New Hope Church Ministries, 313 E. Ohio St., South Bend, IN. Visitation 10:00 a.m. and funeral services 11:00 a.m. Burial will follow at St. Joseph Valley Memorial Park, 375 W. Cleveland Road, Granger, IN. The Clark-O'Neal Funeral Home has been entrusted with the services.

MOM IVORY AND FAMILY:
AFTER RECEIVING THE CALL OF POPS PASSING, MY MIND STARTED GOING BACK TO REMINISS AS WE CALL THE GOOD OLD DAYS.POPS WAS A MAN THAT NO ONE COULD FORGET.ALWAYS HAD A SMILE AND WAS WILLING TO HELP IN ANY SITUATION. JUST CALL AND HE WAS THERE. HE BROUGHT ME UP FROM A VERY YOUNG MAN TO A MIDDLE AGE ADULT. WE WERE IN THE GOSPEL SINGING FIELD. TRAVELED ALL OVER THE COUNTRY. HE STARTED ONE SINGING GROUP AND TURNED IT OVER TO ME AND STARTED ANOTHER. WE TRAVELED FROM COAST TO COAST TOGETHER. TOOK ME PLACES THAT I NEVER WOULD HAVE GONE OR SEEN. WHERE YOU SEEN POPS,(YOU) MOMS WAS RIGHT THERE BY HIS SIDE.HE LIVED A GREAT LIFE. DID EVERYTHING HE SET OUT TO DO. POPS WILL BE GREATLY GREATLY MISSED.WE SHOULD ALL BE HAPPY NOT SAD BECAUSE THIS IS WHAT HE WOULD HAVE WANTED US TO DO BE HAPPY.SO DONT CRY, REJOICE. HE FOUGHT A GOOD FIGHT AND NOW HE'S RESTING FROM HIS LABOR.
