Nancy Munger Obituary

April 17, 1939 - Sept. 18, 2013 SOUTH BEND - Nancy R. (Goheen) Munger, 74, of South Bend, passed away at 10:00 AM on Wednesday, Sept. 18th, in her residence after a courageous battle against cancer, with her loving family at her bedside. Nancy was born on April 17, 1939, in South Bend, IN, to the late Russell L. and M. Jeanne (Conklin) Goheen. On January 23, 2008, in Hamilton, AL, she married Harold Wesley Munger, who survives. Also surviving are two daughters, Elizabeth (Bob) Miller of South Bend and Amy (Tim) Reeser of Danvers, IL; three sons, Daniel Pulaski of Niles, MI, Jeffrey (Lynn) Pulaski of South Bend and Rick Pulaski of Mishawaka; two stepdaughters, Lynn (Tim) Akey and Dana (Randy) Neilson, both of Niles, MI; three stepsons, Tim (Meredith) Kurzhal of Victoria, MN, Mark Munger of Galien, MI, and Eric (Melina) Munger of Vancouver, WA; one brother, John (Deon) Goheen of La Verkin, Utah; 22 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren. Nancy was preceded in death by an infant son, Mark Pulaski in 1958, and one sister, Christine Wise on August 13, 2013. Nancy retired as Post Master in Milford, IN, in 1999 after 30 years with the U.S. Postal Service. She was an avid reader and always had a book in her hand. She loved her cats and dogs. She was a devoted Notre Dame fan and cherished her Notre Dame memorabilia room. She even traveled to Ireland to see Notre Dame beat Navy in The Dublin Shamrock Classic in 1996. She enjoyed all music, with her favorites being folk, country western, 50's-60's and classical. She especially loved the Everly Brothers. She was a proficient piano player and loved playing for her family and friends. She also enjoyed traveling and her late night Yahtzee games with her husband. Nancy's favorite flowers were roses and carnations. Nancy's wishes were for her family to have a celebration of her life and her family will honor those wishes with a Memorial Luncheon to celebrate her life on Sunday, Sept. 29th, from 1:00 PM to 5:00 PM at American Legion Post 357, 5414 W. Sample Street, South Bend, IN. As per her wishes, cremation has taken place. The family requests all memorial contributions be made to The Center for Hospice and Palliative Care, Inc., 111 Sunnybrook Court, South Bend, IN 46637; or to Pet Refuge, 2300 W. 6th Street, Mishawaka, IN 46544. The HANLEY & Sons "Southwest Chapel" Funeral Home handled arrangements and extends its deepest sympathy and heartfelt prayers to Nancy's family.
