Lula Cole Obituary

Lula Aiken Cole

Lula Aiken Cole was the only child born to the late Nellie and Frank Aiken in Forsyth, Ga. Lula was educated in the Monroe County School System. She confessed Christ at an early age at Mt. Gielead Baptist church in Forsyth, Ga. She later became a member of the Seventh Day Adventist denomination, joining Bethany Seventh Day Adventist Church.

Lula met and married the late Albert Cole in 1928. They left Georgia in the early 40s moving to Florida, where they resided for two years. They decided to relocate to the northern part of the United States in 1948, making New Jersey their home.

To this 70+ year union, 11 children were born. Five children preceded her in death: Daughters, Nellie Mae Woodard and Brenda Louise Cole; sons, Milton Jerome Cole, Gary Lynn Cole, and David Leon Cole.

Lula leaves to cherish her memory Johnny Frank Cole Sr., Bridgeton; Mary Alice Johnson (John Ellis), McDonough, Ga., Albert Lewis Cole, Sr., (Bridgeton), Magnolia St. Bernard (Clovis), Bridgeton; Virginia Ann Horace (William), Bridgeton; and Larry Cole (Flo), Camden.

Her legacy will live on in the lives of her grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandchildren. Lula will forever be remembered by her two aunts, Mamie Evans and Ella Mae Evans (Barnesville, Ga.); and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends.

Lula was known by most as a loving and selfless caretaker both personally and professionally, working as a domestic, and a NurseÕs Aide at Cumberland Manor and various other facilities in the New Jersey area.

Lula enjoyed crocheting, sewing, canning, quilting, tatting, cooking and gardening. She loved flowers and grew them until her health failed her. She was very adventurous during her younger years, often driving from New Jersey to Georgia to visit her mother and other family members.

Mama resided at Cumberland Manor Nursing home for six years, until April 9, when she closed her eyes to this world and will open her eyes again to see her Savior. Mama ColeÕs 99 years on earth is a lesson and challenge to live life obediently as God has promised Ñ Psalms 90:10.

Services will be held Thursday, April 14, 2011 at Union Baptist Temple Church, 20 Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Way (Formerly Willow St.) at noon where friends may view one hour prior to services. Interment will be held at Cedar Hill Memorial Park Hopewell Township, immediately following services.

Services are entrusted to EDWARDS & SON FUNERAL HOMES, INC, Bridgeton & Salem, NJ.

Kind words of sympathy may also be sent to the family through the funeral home website, www.edwardsandsonfuneralhome.com.
