Vera Atkins
DUNCAN, SC-- Vera Mae Pittman Atkins, 86, of 202 Gap Creek Road, died Monday, November 1, 2010, at Piedmont Living Center.
A native of Spartanburg County, daughter of the late Dalton Irving and Cennie McCracken Pittman, she was a retired employee of Lyman Mill, a 1943 graduate of Mountain View High School and a member of Duncan First Baptist Church.
Surviving are her husband, Olin Lamar Atkins of the home; a son and daughter-in-law, Lamar and Karen Atkins of Sumter; a daughter, Rowena Wasson of Rex, GA; brother, Roscoe Pittman of Taylors; four granddaughters, Andrea Myers of Suwanee, GA, Dr. Jennie Atkins of Raleigh, NC, Amie Wasson of Rex, GA, and Erin Atkins of Hubert, NC and three great-grandsons.
Funeral services will be held 3:00 PM Thursday, November 4, 2010, at Duncan First Baptist Church conducted by Rev. Lamar McAbee and Dr. Roger Clark. Burial will follow in Wood Memorial Park.
Pallbearers will be Jackie Atkins, Ray LaBlanc, James Pittman, Mark Pittman, Bobby Robertson, John Pittman and David Pittman.
Honorary escort will be the Class of 1943 of Mountain View High School, Mr. and Mrs. Woodrow Hughes, Dot Arms and Mr. and Mrs. Richard Vaughn
Visitation will be held 6:00-8:00 PM Wednesday, November 3, 2010, at Wood Mortuary.
The family is at the home.
The family respectfully requests that flowers be omitted and memorials be made to the charity of one's choice.
