David Hibbard Obituary

HIBBARD, David Forrest (Age 72) David Forrest Hibbard, 72, of Post Falls, died on September 26, 2009. He is survived by his wife True, and only child and daughter, Alyson, of Coeur d'Alene. David was born the only child of Forrest James, and Margaret Elizabeth Hibbard, on October 24, 1936 in Pocatello, Idaho. David graduated from Auburn High School in Auburn, Washington in 1954. He attended Northwest Christian College, before transferring to LaVerne College in Southern California, receiving his BA in History. In 1957, he joined the Army.He later received his Masters Degree In American Studies. In 1969, David and Alyson moved to Coeur d'Alene, where his parents had settled, and Forrest was Pastor of the local First Christian Church. He found carpentry work and became a member of the local Builders Association, while also studying at Gonzaga University, and receiving his Teaching Certificate. During a visit father and daughter took to Los Angeles, David met the love of his life, True Suffern Tailer. They were married in December of 1970. Later David worked for Huntwood Industries which he greatly enjoyed. In the early 1970's, David and True began developing and building Canfield Mtn. Farms, a registered quarter horse ranch and successful breeding facility. David was a man with a great intellectual mind and a sense of humor that made him interesting and fun to be around. He was also blessed with any creative talents, including: drawing, painting, writing, and music. His biggest enjoyment came from his passion for music, college sports, collecting model railroad pieces, and his love of reading from nearly every genre, fiction or non-fiction. But he especially found great joy in his animals. From the many Australian Shepherds he and True had, to all of the cats that found their way to the house or barns. He had a quiet and soothing voice that made them all trust him immediately, and he made each one of them feel special, giving them a myriad of witty nicknames. A Memorial Service will be held on Sunday October 18 at 1:00 P.M., at English Funeral Chapel in Post Falls. Services will be officiated by True's sister the Rev. Toni Smith of Chester, Connecticut. The family requests that in lieu of flowers, donations be made to the local Humane Society at www.kootenaihumanesociety.com and then click on Memorial Donation. David's family also wishes to thank the staff of Life Care of CDA, who for nearly two years extended compassion and care well beyond expectations to both David and his family. Their help and understanding will truly never be forgotten. And many thanks to Hospice of North Idaho, for their help and support in David's final months.
